K-WING BOMBER

The K-wing is a smaller, faster heavy bomber than the B-wing fighter/bomber, with a heavier payload. Unlike the B-wing however, this new starfighter is not nearly as heavily armored and shielded. But it is still a formidable opponent in battle. A squadron of these starfighters could easily damage or destroy even a Star Destroyer.

K-wings have been featured in quite a few novels now, most notably in the Black Fleet Crisis Trilogy by Michael P. Kube-McDowell. They probably have been serving the New Republic since around 5 ASW4. According to Star Wars Imperial Center, the K-wing was in the prototype stages just before the Empire's demise at the Battle of Endor.
