NICOLE SERVES UP A STORM

Today (Sat. 23rd June) Nicole Hackett was a guest at the Mc Donalds in Erina Fair as a part of Mc Happy Day.

Set up by the Central Coast Community Chest, Nicole served and chatted with customers for about 1/2 an hour.

Unfortunately I had to work for the day and even though in the same center, coulnd't make it down there, but fortunately my sister got Nicole's autograph for me!

Thanks for being so obliging, Nicole. And thanks sis! :)

HACKETT SETS RECORD IN PHILIPPINES

Two time Aussie & reinging World Champion Nicole Hackett has blown away any oposition in the Subic Bay International Triathlon.

Competed over the Olympic distance, Nicole finished with a time of 2:04:35 a whopping 11 minutes over her nearest rival, Yukako Inoue of Japan (2:15:29).

Nicole also had the fastest swim split of the day 0:20:25, with the fastest Male time being 0:20:55 - Daniel Lee Chi Wo, Hong Kong, and the second fastest female time being 0:23:13, swum by Inoue of Japan.

One would have to say, although this race lacked any "major names" that Nicole is way on track for a World Championship double.

Go you good thing!

HACKETT BOOKS SEAT TO WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

Article - suntoday.com.au

Nicole noted in this article that "something always seems to come up" in relation to the controversy she has been surrounded by the past year in regard to championship races.

I feel for Nicole... It does always seem that way.

Anyway, if you'd lie check out the article, from one of the local Coast papers just click the link at the top there.

Hackett wins controversey marred race

T.A AGAIN FINDS IT HARD TO MEASURE UP TO THE BEST

This time it was 450m too short.

Triathlon Australia again found it's self with much un wanted publicity after another course length controversey, just 1 day off being a full year since the 2000 Perth World Championships - the site of their other course blunder, in which the run course was measured 2km short.

Last time the error affected Olympic selection. This time it is affecting World Championship selection.

Sydney-based triathlete Melissa Ashton and her coach Keiran Barry yesterday had discussions with T.A. hoping to get her 3rd place re-instated.

NICOLE REIGNS SUPREME!

In a day that was controversial, Nicole Hackett, having had her fair share of controversies in championship races, had none of it as she won her 2nd Australian title and after winning last year, snaring back to back titles.

In what has become quite a great 'habit', Nicole mirrored her '98,'99 double world championships as a junior, with two differences 1) shes now a senior competitor and 2) it's the Aussie champs, not Worlds. Nicole will now have the chance to make it Worlds!. After being the first competitor and Australian across the line, later this year Nicole, along with close friend Loretta Harrop who finished second and Liz Blatchford who finished a controversial third will be four of the six Aussie Girls (the other being Michellie Jones) contesting the World Championships. The other 2 places will be chosen in the Edmonton World Cup race.

(click here for the final times)

As they have done so many times before, and no doubt will continue to do, Nicole Hackett and Loretta Harrop showed and un-canny ability of each others races as they again worked off each other for a blistering swim and emerged for a nice lead into the bike leg.

As is always expected, our handy pair then spread the lead on the bike and went shoulder to shoulder into the run with a mind-blowing 4 minute lead ahead of the rest of the field!

Shoulder to shoulder for the whole 10k. Nic was the one who broke away to record a 12 sec win!

(below from www.tridu.com)

"Loretta and I know each other so well now we don't even talk about what we're going to do before the race, we just know. I'm extremely happy to have won here today. I'm very happy with my form and the way things are going," said Hackett

With yesterdays win, that also secured the 2001 Triathlete of the year award for, yup you guessed it.

Congratulations on the double Nicole! Your a legend!

And the controversey.

Rina Hill from NZ, assited Mel Ashton (NSW) over the line as Mel, over come with exhaustion half-stumbled half-collasped metres short of the line and Rina instinctively helped her, with medical staff, across the line. The next Aussie to cross the line, 5th placed Liz Blatchford, then appealed - as she believed that without the assitance shown to Mel Ashton, she would have been the 3rd Australian across the line and a subsequential World Championship berth would be hers.

It was with her appeal being sucessful.

Apparently, TA is considering an appeal from Ashton.

Today Nicole Hackett flies out to Gamagori in Japan in search of one of the only events she hasn't won in triathlon - A World Cup race.

With Junior (97,98) and Senior (2000) World Championships as well as the youngest female World Champion and the only Australian to win two junior championships -- There's not much this girl can't do!

In '99 Hackett finished second behind her good friend Loretta Harrop - this year she hopes to go one better.

In the lead up to this year's Australian Championships in Mooloolaba (April 29th), Nicole has chosen to compete in the event although, she admits she's been "pretty choosey" about what fits in with her training.

Hackett sees this weekends race as a good way to see what she needs to work on before the Australian Champs. and she feels pretty good.

The race is on Sunday (15th) and Japan is only *about* 1 hour ahead, the race starts at 10am local (Japan) time, so about 11am Aussie time, with Olympic distance being applied (1.5km swim ,40km cycle,10km run).

As always, Go Nicole.

BARB THE COASTIE

Yet another headliner about Barb Lindquist on a Nicole Hackett webpage.

Huh?

Being Nicole's training partner and all, I thought when I found these articles that I'd post them incase anyone was interested.

They are from the Central Coast Express Advocate which was published on the 14th March 2001.

Express - Top triathlon performance by coast pair (KIA F1, Manly - also about Hackett)

Express - Lindquist's clock ticking (coming really soon!)

BARB WINS IT IN TASSIE

USA's Barb Lindquist has taken the honours in the 2001 Devonport Classic Triathlon.

In front of an 8,000 strong crowd Nicole Hackett came second in a polished display with Emma Carney third.

Hackett, Lindquist and Leanda Cave all exited the water together with Mel Ashton & Carney heading the second pack

Emma Carney had a good go on the bike and did it alone, the effects of the Tour de Snowy obviously not that bad, but it was still Lindquist and Hackett who racked their bikes together with Emma in pursuit.

In the run Lindquist set an early pace and stormed home for the win with Nic getting second place comfortabley from a fast finishing Carney.

Podium Results :

1. Barb Lindquist (USA) 2.00.36

2. Nicole Hackett (NSW) 2.01.58

3. Emma Carney (VIC) 2.02.33

1. Chris Hill (QLD) 1.48.44

2. Luke Harrop (QLD) 1.49.12

3. Bryce Quirk (VIC) 1.49.50

DISAPPOINTED HACKETT GOING FOR HAT TRICK

Nicole Hackett will be looking for a hat trick of major races after winning this years famous sprint series the Formula 1 Triathlon.

Nicole is looking to emulate her feats of 2000 by now winning the Australian Championships in March and the World Championships in Edmonton, Canada later in the year.

Nicole also expressed her disappointment of not clean sweeping the series, but added she was very proud of the feat she now shares with Jackie Gallagher

I will upload an article which elaborates on this ASAP, as I can't find it on the internet.

HACKETT TAKES TITLE

Nicole Hackett has won her 3rd straight Formula 1 Triathlon title in QLD today.

Despite being beaten by USA's Barb Lindquist, Hackett had enough points, by far to take the title.

Michellie Jones and Emma Carney sprinted for 3rd with Jones taking it.

HACKETT SET TO SHINE

Nicole Hackett is set to equal the now retired Jackie Gallagher's record of three consecutive Formula 1 Triathlon titles.

Racing on the Gold Coast this Sunday the 28th, Many believe the only competitor who could defeat a white-hot Hackett would be friend and race mate, Loretta Harrop. It is not yet known if Harrop will be racing as she didn't race in Manly.

Hackett needs only a top 6 finish to claim the title, although some might say it would take a lot for her to be beaten.

It would be safe to say that Hackett will go into the race full of confidence, and rightfully so. After completely blowing the field away in Rd 1 at Geelong with a devastating solo-charge which surprised many after all, this was her second 'real' race after the Olympics, Hackett even surprised herself with the results after only a small amount of training and not much race fitness.

Round 2 at Manly Beach provided a spectacular display by Nicole on how to control the wild Manly surf. You would be right in saying that her Surf Life Saving background played a part, but in waters like that, luck also plays a huge part. Nicole also managed to win both races hands down, once again proving to be dominant all race.

My bet is that Nicole Hackett will probably use the same race tactics that has bought her two previous round wins,But, with a champion like Nikki, you just never know what the 'Coastie' has up her sleave.

Go Hackett.

HACKETT TAKES STRANGLE HOLD ON SERIES

Nicole Hackett has won the 2nd round of the F1 series at Manly Beach on Saturday.

In shocking conditions which saw competitors get rescued during the swim leg, Hackett looks set to take out her 3rd consecitive F1 title and equal the recently retired Jackie Gallagher.
