The movie was.... a mixture of good and bad. They had to change a lot from the books, to make the time work, but it was still a long movie. I thought the beginning was too slow, and a lot of time could have been saved by speeding it up.
Many of the items in the movie didn't seem "magical" like the silver put-outer and the golden snitch. They seemed too electronic.
One of the best parts of the movie was Quidditch. Although the first flying lesson seemed fake, the game was very cool-- even the part where Harry coughs up the snitch, winning the game.
I grew to like each of the main characters, except for Dumbledore. He was too... quiet, not "crazy" or "eccentric" enough. In the beginning, I hated Ron, but as the movie went on, I thought he was one of the best matches to his character.
Bits of comedy were thrown in, but not much of it was original Rowling. Newer, dumber jokes were put in.
The vastly-anticipated score by John Williams was a dissapointment. Yes, Harry's theme was good, but way overplayed. Every five seconds: "dun du dun dun duu duuuuun duuuuuuuun" It started to become annoying. Also, I expected triumphant, christmas-ey music, and most of the music was mysterious, or scary.
Out of 5 stars, I give Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, the movie 3.
