aramahamsa Shree Satchidananda Tirtha Swamigal, the renowned Bhashya Swamigal, the recipient of boundless compassion and grace of both our Guru and Paramaguru, wrote a five verses hymn, named 'Matru Panchakam' at the supreme command of our Paramaguru, in his dream. Conforming to the popular maxim : 'There is no greater mantra than the Gayatri and no greater divinity than one's mother', this stotra is composed to show the world, the greatness of mother. Even Acharya Shree Sankara Bhagavatpada, in his young age, served his mother in many ways and after enabling her to attain eternal abode at the end, performed her last rites and obsequies and thus showed the world how a son should remain devoted to his mother.
The Stotra has been elabotately commented upon in English by our beloved discliple Shree Sankaran, son of Kannimangalam Krishna Iyer. Even our revered Guru on seeing his literary style was graciously pleased and showeredon him, His supreme blessings. We are happy to know that this work although printed earlier, is being reprinted at the behest of noble persons.
We also bless that the commentator, be the recipient of welfare by the uninterrupted blessings of Shree Sharada Chandramouleeswara.
