One of the main themes for the month of May is love. Which as we often know can be a tricky thing to work with. As many witches follow the Wiccan Rede which is "Harm None", this can be even trickier as it's difficult to craft a love spell that won't break any of those harm none rules. We can however, craft a spell that allows us to be open to the possibility of love in our lives.
So the spell for this month is designed to help remove barriers and obstacles that might be keeping us from the experience of love.
Opening to Love Ritual
You Will Need:
- A Love Charm (a ritual to create one is included in the New Moon ritual for this month) Or you can purchase one from a local shop, catalog, or even online.
- Pink candle (if more than one person is attending the ritual, have one pink candle for every person in attendance) and larger pink candle to represent the Goddess.
- Anointing oil (a good one to use is rose oil, since it is traditionally associated with love. You can also use gardenia, lavender or another fragrant flower blossom oil)
- Optional: a piece of rose quartz (again ideally one for every person in attendance)
- Optional: Rose incense, or if people are sensitive to rose, use lavender or another light scent.
Preparation:
- Consecrate and Cleanse the Circle with Rose or Lavender incense
- Consecrate and Cleanse the Circle with Salt and Water.
Cast the circle:
Start by walking clockwise around the circle space, visualizing a blue/white light following your path as you walk. Say these words or something similar:
We cast this circle to protect us from all forces that come to us harm.
Make another round walking clockwise around the circle, visualizing a white or violet light following your path. Say these words or something similar:
We cast this circle to allow only the most perfect energies for this work, and block out all other energies.
On the final round of casting the circle, bring your arms above your head and say:
We charge this circle to create a space beyond space, a time beyond time, a temple of perfect love and perfect trust, where the highest will is sovereign.
Sweep your arms below you to complete the circle and say:
As above, so below! So mote it be!

Invoke the Goddess
Great Goddess, we gather under the Full Moon to work our Craft in Your name, and with Your blessing. Help us to find love, and keep love, to give love and accept love, in any way that is positive and beneficial. For You have taught us, and we know that it is true - Love is the Law and Love is the Bond. So Mote it Be.
Light the pink Goddess candle
Sit and talk about what love means to each participant. Discover what kinds of love is already in your life, and not just romance, but also the love of family, friendship, and even pets. You might want to figure out what kind of love you want to manifest in your life (get along with your family, meet the person right for you, etc.) and what kinds of mundane things you can do to help this happen.
Place the love charm that you made (or bought) as well as the piece of rose quartz in your lap. Hold the pink candle in your hand (unlit) and visualize your heart and spirit opening up. See yourself welcoming in love in all its positive and beneficial forms, surrounded by the glow of love and happiness. If you are trying to be open to a particular kind of love (romantic, familial, etc.) visualize yourself in the situation you are hoping to bring about (if you are having family issues for example, you would visualize everyone sitting around laughing and talking together). Pass around the oil and anoint your candle with it, while focusing on being open to love.
When everyone is ready, say this spell together:

Have a moment of silence, and if you like, light your candle now.
Take a deep breath and ground, letting go of the intense energy and feelings
that may have arisen during the spell casting. Love is very emotional
and powerful.
Now is also an excellent time for Cakes and Ale. One suggestion I've always loved is to serve white cake (angel food cake is divine for this) and champagne or mimosas (which is champagne mixed with orange juice). A non-alcoholic beverage that I've also used is flavored sparkling water.
