John Cena, after surviving the 2005 Battle FieldTHE DOCTOR OF THUGANOMICS JOHN CENA
Battle Field Winner
Sept. 7, 2005

Going into Fall Battle Fields, the so-called experts gave John Cena very little chance of actually winning the Battle Field. Sure, he was a red-hot up-and-comer, but a young one, none the less. The "experts" forgot about momentum, however. The Doctor of Thuganomics had all sorts of momentum coming in, and he rode that momentum -- as well as a spectacular draw at No. 27 -- all the way to the end of the Battle Field, last eliminating Intercontinental Champion Mr. Perfect to earn his shot at the sport's top prize.

The Doctor of Thuganomics was suddenly in the headlining match of wrestling's premiere event, slated to face hated VCW owner Excellence. He earned his shot at the champion by outlasting 29 other men, and he wasn't about to waste it. In front of a sold-out Los Angeles, Calif., crowd, John Cena -- The Rookie -- defeated four-time World Champion Excellence -- The Legend -- to become the Professional Wrestling Federation Champion. Less than four months after his professional wrestling debut, John Cena found himself on top of the entire wrestling world. Cena had used the Battle Field to put his name in the record books. The Lethal Lottery, though ... was just around the corner.
