The poem "I Choose" was published
in the magazine "The Headliner:" A Newsletter Of A
Brain Injury Support Group in Portland.
Its one of the few writings published under her
own name. I should also mention that this is the
only work ever published without an editor's pen.
I think its one of her best. The Poem "You Do Not
Stand Alone" previously appeared in "The Best of
3-West Magazine.

"I Choose"

As you can see.
I enjoy being me.
I'm the one I choose to be.
Sometimes its not easy.

Although I have a disability
and others tend to make fun,
They'll never get the best of me.
I'll keep trying until I'm done!

"You Do Not Stand Alone"

Its difficult to escape the prison walls of
our memories of the past,
But keep hope, we can still live here and last.

Through all the wear and tear of life
you have a friend here who cares and
shares your strife.

I have an empathetic, listening ear,
when you talk to me I'll believe you,
and I'll hear.

Whenever you need help please call on me;
I will never betray you, you'll see.
We share the same problems of trying to cope
within this world.
We've fought similar battles and our hopes
have been hurled.

Perhaps we can keep one another from
falling into the same pains
and steer each other on the road of life
into the right lanes.

The only profits I seek to find
are to encourage strength, confidence,
and peace of mind.

If you see me falling please help me, too.
At times I can see I'm not as strong as you.
We all sometimes feel like victims of horrible crimes,
but in this life or in eternity the wicked will
serve their due time,
for the Lord said, "Vengeance is mine."
