Writing a letter is a good start to helping animals that are in abusive situations. But there is so much more you can do. You can send out hundreds of "cc" letters and you can send news tips to the media to raise awareness by keeping these situations in the public eye. 

If we all vow to set a few hours aside each week, or at least each month, we will become a much more aggressive group and the pressure on legislatures will become unbearable.

Your Town - Many smaller localities are developing their own codes that prohibit animal circuses. To see a list of the localities that have so far, visit www.circuses.com. To find resources on starting the campaign in your town, visit the Animal Protection Institute Resource Center. 

Germany - Last year Germany became the first country ever to grant constitutional rights to animals. Lawmakers voted to add "and animals" to a clause in the German Constitution that obliges the State to protect the dignity of humans. This can be something else to point out in your letters. Commend Germany for recognizing God's creatures as individuals.

Gilda - Gilda is a lonely elephant that is kept by Siegfried and Roy at the Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas. Experts from all over the world have concluded that it is cruel to keep elephants, who are highly social animals,  in solitary conditions. Regardless, Gilda is kept alone and forced to perform every night. People have picketed the Mirage, written letters to Ringling, who she is leased from, as well as Siegfried and Roy and the Mirage.
