TIASCA Elects
New Set of Officers
San Diego, CA.
On May 8, 1999, TIASCA held its 9th day of novena prayers in honor of its
Patron Saint, San Pascual Baylon at the Stonepoint Clubhouse in Spring
Valley, California. The prayers started at 5:00 o'clock in the afternoon
followed by a Holy Mass that was celebrated by Father Ediza.
After dinner was served and
with all the dessert all but just about gone, fiesta entertainment began
with Marissa Borja, Jenny Tuy and Crystal Abaño opening the show
with their rendition of a pop song
By 9 p.m., the inevitable finally
happened as TIASCA elected its millennium officers. With Dan Oira and Noel
Borja playing the roles of COMELEC and Jane Borja doing a Vanna White impersonation
as she was holding up the poster board tally sheet.
The announcement by the outgoing
Mayor that he was not seeking a fifth term earlier in the year, opened
the field to several Mayorables with Ervin Borja being a slight favorite.
However, during the election night, only him and Steve Abiog were nominated.
Ervin took an early lead when the Felarca, Cagliliog, Daligan, Tierra Nevada,
Bani and Tanga votes were first tallied. But, the lead was short-lived
as Steve Abiog slowly took the lead when the Iraya, Sogod, Baybay, Buenavista,
Tamban and Bagacay ballots started arriving in big numbers. Ervin made
a last ditch effort trying to rally the Binalay votes through his cell
phone only to find out that phone lines were still not connected in the
area. Eventually, Steve won by one vote.
Other officers elected were:
Gil Borja, Vice Mayor; Myra Villamora, Secretary/Treasurer; Grace Betito,
Auditor; and Jane "Vanna White" Borja, PRO.
