SOLTES DUO WIN "BAKHAWAN AWARD"
San Diego, CA.
Hardwork, dedication, and diligence were the key words that underscored
this year's selection for the much coveted "Bakhawan Award". Engr.
Joe "Pepe" Ablay who chaired the award committee, indicated that the selection
process was difficult in the light of many deserving candidates and explained
why the Soltes couple was selected:
"Ex-Mayor Leo Soltes was selected
by virtue of his hardwork and dedication as a member of the Pag-Iribang
Bikolnon steering committee and successfully carrying out TIASCA's responsibility
for the Peñafrancia fluvial and land processions, building the bigger
than life replica of a Philippine jeepney that wowed many during the last
Peñafrancia Festival, and for being a consistent major player during
TIASCA activities. His record as a Mayor is one of a dedicated and innovative
public servant with the good of the organization foremost in his mind."
He also explained why Cora Soltes
shared the honors:
"Mrs. Cora C. Soltes, our outgoing
Secretary/Treasurer, diligently performed her duties with resulting efficiency
and proper accounting of TIASCA finances. As the Treasurer, she ensured
that all financial obligations incurred by the organization were settled
in a timely manner and that they were legitimate transactions. Also as
a member, she was a constant player both financially and physically during
TIASCA events, contributing significantly to the successes of these events."
The awards presented during
the “dinner & dance” affair at the camp site were well received by
the audience that gave the couple awardees a standing ovation.
Fernando "Dandoy" Betito and
Herve Abiog were the other members of the award committee.
