Villamora, Re-elected President
of Bicol Club
National City, CA.
The Bicol Club of San Diego County, an organization with over 600 active
members and one of the oldest clubs in San Diego County held its annual
elections at the Southwest Masonic Lodge of this city on June 6, 1999.
Al Villamora, the incumbent
President was re-elected to another term making him the millennium president
of the 37 year-old organization. Others re-elected were Charlotte G. Fajardo,
1st Vice President; Ely P. Escuro, 2nd Vice President; and Leo Bagaporo,
Treasurer. Janet Rull, the incumbent Secretary did not run for re-election.
The popular Villamora, formerly
from Tinambac, Camarines Sur and now a long-time resident of San Diego,
ran on the strength of his administration's excellent record of accomplishments
and personal credentials. A Lieutenant Commander in the US Navy with 24
years of active service, Villamora holds a Bachelor of Science degree in
Occupational Safety and Health (Cum Laude). He is an Industrial Hygienist
by profession.
The challenger, Frank Bernaldez
formerly from Bato, Camarines Sur and the immediate past President of the
Batoeños of California put up a good fight but came short in unseating
the youthful incumbent.
The capacity crowd of almost
400 people was kept in suspense throughout the canvassing of votes as both
candidates jockeyed for the lead. Noticeably present were three generations
of Bicolanos visibly rooting for the incumbent president. Some of
the young people even held signs and placards expressing their support.
The incoming officers were sworn-in
on June 26, 1999 at the Town & Country Hotel in Fashion Valley during
the Club's Annual Mothers' & Fathers' Night Out Dinner & Dance.
