December 27, 2005 - Tuesday

Snowy and windy, and cold.

A good day, but bad weatherwise!

I didn't sleep well in the ryokan last night. I was too hot and I'm not used to sleeping on a futon anymore! However, it was quite a nice place. It was quiet and the food was fine. There wasn't too much that I couldn't eat, which was nice for me.

We left around 10 am and drove back to Tsuruoka. It was really nasty on the road. Most of the drive was along the coast and in places the sea foam looked just like laundry foam. It was flying through the air.

We came home via Musashi and rested for a long time. We were both quite tired and just wanted to relax. Finally around 4 we went out for our "lunch". We went to Jiro. It was really good, and very quiet.

I came up with the bright idea to go to a second hand bookstore. It wasn't the best idea. Traffic was really slow around 5ish and the snow was blowing again. Sigh. It was nasty. We got to the bookstore and looked around. I ended up buying a video (Virtuosity), a tv show video (Strange Luck), a cd and a dvd (Under Siege). I'm looking forward to watching them.

We came home and did more vegging. Around 8 I put out a cheese plate and we watched ER from last night. That was relaxing.

We discovered while we were away that there had been a train accident between Tsuruoka and Sakata on Christmas Day. It happened at night and at the moment 5 people are confirmed dead. Two more people are missing. The train derailed, possibly due to wind drafts. It's almost unbelievable. I told Fumihiko that if the train had derailed on the nearby bridge the toll would have been much worse. In this cold, snowy weather, rescue workers wouldn't have been able to reach them. It doesn't bear thinking about.

I have to run. I have to get to bed soon. Poor Fumihiko has to go to work tomorrow. He has only one day of work this week, then he's off again until the new year. Hurray for him.

I have to go. Stay warm out there!
