Sunny and warm, gorgeous day.
Quite an exciting day today but not in a good way. I nearly burned down the house! When I was making my brunch I ran out of cream cheese. I decided to toast one of my crispbreads with some cheese on it, so that I could warm the cheese and then spread it. I was toasting it and reading a magazine when I heard a "Whomp" kind of noise. I looked up and smoke was pouring out of the toaster oven. I immediately turned it off and saw that the crispbread was on fire, flames reaching the top of the oven. I was so scared! Not scared that the apartment would burn down or anything sensible like that, but scared that the damn fire alarm would go off and I'd have to explain to the neighbours that my crispbread was to blame! I opened the nearest window...luckily very near, then the balcony and bedroom windows to let fresh air in. My heart was pounding, but I gradually calmed down. (By the way, I did unplug the toaster oven too!)
After that, the rest of the day seemed a bit anti-climactic. I didn't go to the mall. I was very tired. Remember yesterday how I said Fumihiko was watching a Bruce Lee movie? He wouldn't go to bed. He just wouldn't. I ended up going to bed long before him. I fell asleep to the "Hi-yah" and other karate noises, then woke up when I realized the TV was off. It was now 4 am. The next thing I heard was a very loud, "Click. Click. Click. Click (and so on, you get the picture.) Hubby had decided to cut his toenails at 4 in the morning. It was so loud. I actually said something to him to that effect, but he kept on doing it. Finally he came to bed, but I was more than a tad annoyed with him.
When Fumihiko came home tonight we had a discussion about our trip and our travel insurance. I won't go into it here, but I'm worried about it, and he isn't. Hmm.
We went to the mall to pick up our travel stuff. That was fine. The only odd thing for me is that they've put my names on the paper together. I'm listed as HELENDIANA. That's not my name! I asked the travel agent about it and she said it was okay. I certainly hope so!
We bought some decafe coffee in Seattle's Best Coffee, and had a cup each. For the first time in ages we didn't have a fight there. Hurray. I was starting to have a phobia about that place.
Next on our journey was Toda books. Fumihiko wanted a new tourist guide for Guam, and I wanted to see if the bookstore had the latest Bartimaeus book. They didn't. Fumihiko did get two guides, one of which has a bilingual map, so that's good. I also noticed that one of the clerks used to be my student a very long time ago. I don't think he recognized me.
We had a lovely dinner at the Genghis Khan restaurant. Tonight I tried something new, gyoza wrapped in chicken skin. They were deep fried so the skin was crispy. It sounds pretty yucky, but actually was good, and reasonably low carb too. Yay. I also had edamame, along with a lot of veggies and lamb. Of course my husband had to have ramen. Why?? I don't know!
We came home and then just vegged for a while. I spent time on my computer, Fumihiko spent time reading his guide books and watching inane Japanese TV.
That's it. I didn't go out by myself, but I'm thinking about going out tomorrow, if it's still nice. I'd like to get a bit of sun. That was my day. A bit too much excitement in the early part, and a bit boring in the evening. Gotta go! Night.
PS What do you think of the new colour? Does it work on your browser? I like it, but I don't know if it works on other systems. Any problems, just let me know.
