Cloudy, rainy, bad weather day.
Not a great day truth be told. Sigh. What else is new?
It all started well, we got up,but then the first problem happened. Fumihiko had lost his car keys. Where were they? Well, after him running around for 20 minutes like a headless chicken, I finally found them, in yesterday's jeans. Where were they? Well, that's personal, and I'm not going into it. We had lunch at the Daiichi hotel and then went to the bank. That was the big problem.
I had to go to the bank that my school's account is at. I've never banked there personally, and their set up inside the branch is much different than the one at my usual bank. Keep in mind that I used to be a bank teller. For 7 years. I know my way around banking stuff in English. But this is Japan right? So of course absolutely nothing makes sense. Fumihiko told me I needed this form and this form, so I got him to fill them out, and I did what I could on them. Then, I asked about deposit slips. There aren't any. I was supposed to use the machine. Well, you know, I didn't want to use the all in Japanese machine. So, I got a little angry and told him that I didn't care if I hit the wrong buttons, I would live with it. I got the deposit sort of in. I couldn't figure out how to do the coins, when I realized that someone had left the bank. I got really angry at that point. Decided I was going to close the school and go back home. Walked around outside the bank for a bit. It was raining. Went to the car. Got more angry and yelled at my husband. Told him I needed his help cause I'd never used that bank before. Went back in. Stood about as far away from him as was possible inside the building.
Went up to the clerk, took a number and waited some more. Finally when my number was called went up and she told us that there was a service charge for something. Huh? Whatever. Okay if I get a receipt. She took my stuff and I sat down again. When she called my name again I went up but what's his name didn't. She mumbled something and I took my receipt, money and passbook. I think she took the money out of my account and then charged me in cash for the service charge, but didn't give me a receipt for it. I was horribly confused and furious with my husband. Talk about leaving me high and dry. I didn't choose that bank and I'm not impressed. There isn't even a national bank in Tsuruoka that I could move my account to, in the hopes of having an English Bank Machine, or at least some efficient workers.
I got in the car and told the driver that I still had to go to the post office. We went there, and once again, I was left to my own devices. Luckily I have more experience with post offices in Japan than I do with banks. I managed fine there.
We went to an electronics store next, he was supposed to buy a computer today and I wanted to get a photocopier. Thing was, we went to a different store than the one we went to yesterday. They didn't have the one I wanted. I saw one in my price range, but honestly, really looking at the features, etc, I decided I didn't want it. So, we went to a different store, the one from the day before.
I didn't buy the one that I had planned to, of course I ended up paying a bit more money too. Still, I think it's a better machine so hopefully it'll all work out.
Fumihiko dropped me off at home and went to buy his computer. He did, and then came back here. He didn't bring the computer though. He's going to get wireless broadband for his machine. That'll be interesting because at the moment the connection to the internet is being hogged by my computer and I don't want to share. I'm not entirely sure how it's all going to work out. The guy is supposed to come and help him set it up tomorrow when I'm at work.
Hubby drove me over to the school and we set up the photocopier. While I was doing that I noticed that I can put it in English. Yay. The labels on the outside are Japanese, but the screen messages are in English now. Cool.
We went out for dinner. We went to Togashi's tonight and it was great. Good food, but we ate too much as usual. After, I insisted on karaoke. I can't remember the last time I went and we've been fighting so much lately that we needed to do something fun.
We stopped at a convenience store for Fumihiko to get some snacks, then we went to the karaoke box. We only went for 2 hours as it was late and we both have work tomorrow.
After karaoke we had to get a few groceries for tomorrow. Then we came home. Fumihiko's been making a map for my school to give to people. I'm not 100% sure why he did that, I can google it after all! But, I guess it's a good thing to give/fax to people who are planning to visit. Not sure if Google would like me running off a million copies to give out.
We're a lot more friendlier now, but we're both quite quiet. I'm not sure what tomorrow's going to be like. I might have to stick around here to let in the fix-it guy for the air-conditioner, but I can't stay here for the computer guy. That's at 6. I'm not even sure when Fumihiko will be home.
Anyway, that was my day. Pretty yuck. I'll be glad when I get some me time tomorrow. Night.
Oh, one last thing, and this is a good one! I switched a few months ago to a wireless mouse on my computer, but it's never worked as well as I thought it should. Yesterday I bought a new, smooth mousepad, and the mouse is working really well. What a difference! A big problem solved by a 700 yen mousepad. Who knew??
