Sunny and warm day. I like this kind of winter!
Today was good. I went to bed very very late last night so I slept in very late. Fumihiko woke up sometime around 9 with a terrible coughing fit. I thought he'd cough up a lung it was so bad. I fell asleep after he got up and I didn't wake up till the afternoon.
When I did wake up we went to Moku-Moku for lunch. I had chicken and cheese yaki. It was very good, but as always, a bit small. Fumihiko had their curry plate. It looked good, but I'm happy with what I had.
After lunch hubby needed more money so we went to the MaxValu. He went to the bank machine, I went inside and got an avocado, sunflower seeds and a few frozen veggies. After that, we came home.
At home, Fumihiko requested that we watch the Japanese movie that he gave me for Valentine's day, so we did. According to the subtitles, the movie is called "The Hidden Blade" in English. It's by the same writer (Fujisawa Shuhei) and director (Yoji Yamada) as Tasagari Seibei "Twilight Samurai". It had similar themes in the story, but I enjoyed it anyway. It's basically about a poor samurai whose father was made to commit suicide. The son is in love with a girl that worked for his family, but they can't marry as they aren't the same caste. There is a swordfight at the end, but it's not like the swordfighting of Errol Flynn or Johnny Depp. It seems realistic to me. Fumihiko kept pointing out some of our local mountains in the film. Fujisawa was a Tsuruoka writer so parts were filmed up here. I very much enjoyed it. If you're renting/buying the dvd and want to see it with English subtitles, check the box carefully!
After the movie I was in a very "Japan" mood, so I suggested that we go to Kintaro Sushi, our local revolving sushi restaurant. Being around 7:30, it wasn't that busy and we were seated right away. It was fun being there. I did eat some of the rice, but I tried to do a "halfsies" thing. For example, I'd grab a plate of something. I'd eat one whole sushi...the other I'd eat only the fish. We had some chawanmushi and some miso soup too. It was very good. I'd forgotten how much I like sushi. I just hope that my body can handle the rice that I did eat.
We came home after dinner and then we watched last night's Grey's Anatomy. It was the ending of the "unexploded shell inside the guy" episode. It was very good. After it was over though, Fumihiko started watching stupid stuff on the tv and I lost interest.
He's been having really bad back trouble this last week or so. I'm quite worried about him. I just found out today that he's got Wednesday off so we planned to go and see about my taxes in the early part of the day. However, I didn't know about it, so I scheduled a couple of classes for myself that afternoon and evening. If he'd told me when he found out, I could have moved at least one of them to another day. Still, this way, he gets me out of his hair for 4 or 5 hours on Wednesday. And that's not a bad thing.
The Daily Rant
Men have funny quirks. Okay, total generalization there. Let's specify. My husband has funny quirks. He does his own laundry (bless him) but can't clean out the lint trap to save his life. I brought the contents of the lint trap through to the living room tonight so he could dispose of them, and he said he usually cleaned it out. Right. He leaves me one piece of toilet paper on the roll in the toilet room, and doesn't bother to get me down another roll. Thanks hon. Hubby and I have differences in how we do everything too. He washes dishes by putting everything in the washing basin at once. I try to keep the tableware separate from the cooking stuff. I leave the sharp knives out of the water until I'm ready to wash them. He puts them in with everything else. Guess which one of us has been cut with sharp knives while washing the dishes? Not me! He can read and I assume understand kanji, yet guess which one of us knows how to programme the vcr and which one doesn't? That's right. I can't read the guide book, but I can programme the machine! I can also use the remotes for any and all of our electronic devices better than him! (Well, honestly, I have to give him the remote for the air conditioner. I can't figure it out at all.) Oh, and that brings up one more thing. When I say to him, "Please explain the kanji for the bath/bathroom fan/microwave/etc to me sometime," he launches into an explanation immediately. Wait until I get a pen and paper. I can't possibly memorize all of that at once!
He's a great guy and I'm sure that I have some personality quirks that drive him nuts, however, I'm the one with the blog and he's not!
Night!
