Sunny and hot.
Edited June 9, 2018 because "F" got very angry when I read the story to him about the ice cream and demanded that I erase the entry. Note to self....Don't read this story to him ever again.
A great day today, really. I slept way, way in today. I was even shocked myself about how late it was. Sigh. Oh well.
When I got up, F and I couldn't decide where to go for lunch, but finally chose Steak Miya in Sakata. I didn't really want to drive all the way to Sakata for just lunch, but then I realized that there was a Jusco near the restaurant. I could go there and check out the hats, rather than going to a very crowded mall. Score!
We went to the restaurant and had a lovely meal. We also had drink bar and soft cream bar with our meal. Basically soft ice cream. I, like most sane people, decided to wait until I'd eaten everything else before hitting the ice cream machine, but, F decided to eat his steak with a side of ice cream. He took his cup for the ice cream, and brought back a mountain of ice cream. Which he proceeded to eat between mouthfuls of soup, steak, rice and gulps of drinks. I ate my dinner and had a few drinks at the drink bar. He had another mountain of ice cream, although it wasn't quite as tall as the last one. I took my ice cream cup to the machine, pulled the handle, and nothing happened. I tried again, and I got a very small amount of ice cream. Maybe a quarter of a cup, that's it. My husband had emptied the machine! He told the waitress and she refilled the machine, but then came back and told us it would take quite a while to freeze, so basically, I couldn't have any ice cream. They took the charge for my soft cream bar off the bill, but then they took his charge off too! He ate all the ice cream and he didn't even have to pay for it! It is sooooo not fair! I tried to be philosophical about the whole thing. I told him the universe didn't want me to have any ice cream!
After our meal, we went across to Jusco and had a snoop around the hat section. There were a lot. F insisted on bringing me lots of hats to try on. Some of them were cute, but he'd bring the same hat twice, because he has no memory where "fashion" is concerned! Anyway, I bought a couple. I had some found money...F washed it and then gave it to me!
Having hats in hand, it was time to go to karaoke. We drove back to Tsuruoka, got some snacks, and then went to Manekineko. We got free time and were there for about 3 hours. When I looked in the book of new songs, I got a big shock. There were a ton of new Canadian songs, including one by Barenaked Ladies! I have been waiting for 11 years to do a BNL song at karaoke. It was One Week, and it's darn hard! I would have preferred If I had a Million Dollars or Enid or Brian Wilson or What a Good Boy, but, hey, I'll take it. And, there was Glass Tiger! Jann Arden! Tom Cochrane! k d lang! It was a bonanza day for me. I was in heaven.
After karaoke, we had a quick dinner in Gusto, grabbed a few groceries in MaxValu, then came home. We watched the rest of Raiders and then F basically fell asleep. I roused him long enough to take his bath and a cup of decaf.
I should go to bed soon. Last night it was daylight when I went to bed, I'd like to go a bit earlier tonight, but I'm not on the right track. Sigh.
So to sum up, no ice cream, but lots of Barenaked Ladies. (I sang the song twice.) And hats. Yay!
Night!
