Gloria's song "Reach" was chosen to be the official theme song of the '96 Olympics in Atlanta. She performed it during the closing ceremony. (also see releases-specials) - There is a special version of this songs with Friends off Gloria who sing along: Jon Secada, Ricky Martin, Julio Iglesias, Placido Domingo, etc.

 

The Estefan Family lives in a beautiful house on "Star Island". An Island just before the coast of Miami.

Mariah Carey's major hit "Hero" was original written for Gloria!
But husband-at-that-time Tommy Mottola said that Mariah should hold on to it herself!

Gloria's father won in 1952 a bronze medal in the "Pan-American Games" with the Cuban volleyball team.

Gloria's favorite book in elementary school was Charlotte's Web [by E.B. White], and in high school A Tree Grows in Brooklyn [by Betty Smith]

Gloria studied psychology and she recieved a B.A. from Miami University. She is also a member of its Board of Trustees. 

Gloria gave a concert for the victims of the Hurricane Andrew,The Hurricane Relief, at Miami's Joe Robbie Stadium which raised over $4,000,000 . Estefan then released the inspirational ballad, "Always Tomorrow," and donated all proceeds to the hurricane relief. 

 

Gloria and Emilio and the GE Foundation gave a donation of $50,000.00  to the League Against Cancer. They also,  received an award from the League for being there every year. 

Performing in the East Room of the White House May 18, 2001, Gloria Estefan sings the anthem of Cuban independence at a reception in honor of Cuban independence day, which takes place on May 20. Playing violin is Lizebet Martinez, a Cuban refugee, who upon being rescued on a raft, played the song on her violin. Cuba's Independence Day honors Cuban patriots. When Madonna & Gloria were kinda neighbours in Miami they used to visit each other once and again, to have a talk and let the girls (Emily & Lourdes) play together

The lines from "Coming Out Of The Dark" came to Emilio's mind when he sat in the helicopter on their way to the hospital, after the accident! When they flew through the clouds, suddenly the sun bursted out and it really was like coming out of the dark...

The Estefan's home in Miami is furnished in white and cream-shades (Emilios fav colors!)

Gloria performed at the 1999 Andre Agassi Charitable Foundation's Grand Slam for Children together with the members of the gospel group PsychoVangelist, Luther Vandross, Stevie Wonder, Elton John and LeeAnn Rimes
