Installing the Processor
|
|
Now that the
case is prepared and wires are out of the way, it's
time to install the processor. This small piece of the
computer is the brains behind the whole operation. Without
it you're lost! So be careful with it!
Look at your
motherboard and find the white square that is the same
size as the processor. Lift up the silver arm connected
to this white box. It should open up then stay up. The
chip has corner with Pin 1. Pin 1 is defined by having
a small arrow in the corner. This Pin 1 lines up with
Hole 1 in the box we just located. Make SURE
the silver arm is all the way up or you will break your
processor. After the chip falls into place,
press down the silver arm back to its original position
locking the processor down. At this time, take the white
thermal grease provided with your processor and cover
the small core of the processor, which is in the center.
After the thermal grease is applied, it's time for the
heatsink.

Attaching the Heatsink
|
|
Attaching
the heatsink can be a tricky feat, but we'll explain
exactly how it's done.
Look at the
bottom of your heatsink and check to see if there is
a protective layer covering the silver circle. If there
is, remove it, if not don't worry about it. Look at
the white box where you just secured the processor.
Find the opposite sides of the white box that line up
with the silver clip on the heatsink. One edge will
be flat with two bumps and the opposite side will have
one bump that sticks out further. Attack the T end of
the heatsink clip first then use a flat screwdriver
to push down at attach the other end of clip. NOTE::
Be VERY careful the heatsink goes down flat on the processor!!!
If you do not, you will crack the processor and have
to buy a new one.
Now that your
processor/heatsink combo is attached and ready to go,
it's time to connect the hard drives and optical drives.
