Installing the Operating System (OS)
|
|
Generally
speaking, if you want the best OS to manage your system
components. Windows XP Pro or Home is the way to go.
WinXP will optimize your computer for best performance
and will allow you to get every inch of power out of
your new machine.
The only major
difference between the Home and Professional versions
of XP are the networking capabilities. Windows XP Pro
offers a wide variety of network options where as Home
is suggested for an independent computer.
To install
WinXP is fairly simple. Check your BIOS settings (by
holding Delete or F8 during startup) and make sure the
computer will read the DVD or CD-RW drive on startup.
If this is on, put the Windows XP cd into your drive,
then restart. The computer will turn on, go through
a few prompts. Windows will format the drive, meaning
erase everything and prepare it for a fresh install.
After the format is complete, the file copying will
commence. I suggest staying at your computer the first
time that you do this so you know everything that happens.
After the file copy and install is done, few questions
at the end will finish off the OS Installation. If you
have any problems, read your Windows documentation or
locate a local shop for technical difficulties or strange
errors.
Good luck with your new computer =)
