September 1999 Ramblings |                                                                                                                             | November 1999 Ramblings |
Bill Albert, founder and Fearless Leader of UNIT, issues a statement each month describing his feelings on the state of Doctor Who fandom in Iowa. He calls these messages his "Ramblings".
Here are his his 2 messages for October 1999, the first on the Eve of Exiled in Iowa, the second shortly after Exiled in Iowa
From: 9th DoctorPROMOTIONS: We are in the Cedar Rapids Gazette weekend section this morning! They gave a brief description of what we have planned and the usual time and place info. They have the website address and my email address. The only problem is they dropped the "1" in "squad51" so, hopefully, anyone will tryout the website first and contact me directly from there. I'm hoping they'll have another announcement tonight during SFFN. For those of us who missed it last weekend. TRAVELS: I was thinking how there may be a lot of people coming tomorrow who aren't familiar with the wilds of Linn County and Cedar Rapids. If you're running behind just take your time and drive carefully. We'll start gathering at 9:AM but won't put on any rare videos or start anything for a while. So don't worry about missing anything. We'll be happy to wait and take the time to get to know everybody. PARKING: Kevin Litten points out that there are a lot of parking garages in down town Cedar Rapids and may be easier and less expensive to park there than the library. A bit of an extra walk but it's still easier than checking the meter as the day goes on. Anybody excited about this but me? Bill From: 9th Doctor THANK YOU I can only echo Mike's thanks from yesterday to all the people who came to help us celebrate the Doctor. It was really a great feeling to have people from 4 different states take the time to stop by and meet and greet fellow fans. "I didn't know there were others" was a common phrase and I believe this is only the beginning. We will connect with more and more Who fans in the future. Just feel free to keep the word going and tell everyone you know that this group is here. We can't thank you enough for all the good words from the people who were there and from IPTV and TR Sammis for helping get the word around. The best way we can thank you is to say that YES there will be more. We have the next two UNIT events already on the drawing boards. The next will be in mid-February/Valentine's Day either in Cedar Rapids again or Des Moines. Ideally we'll be able to eventually alternate to different parts of the state and give everyone a chance. The second event for 2000 will be to round up the fans and help out during festival in March on IPTV. At the same time don't forget that John Levene will be in Moorehead College and, hopefully, more than a few of us will be able to work out a road trip to meet him. DOCTOR WHO ON IOWA PUBLIC TELEVISION For those who missed it GREEN DEATH, the infamous Giant Maggot story, has started and is Jo Grant's final story. I believe it wasn't to long after leaving the show that Katy Manning did her nude with a Dalek photo session and fell out of favor with the DW production office. She was finally asked to return for the Five Doctor's special but was unavailable. If anybody knows more details feel free to let us know. MERCHANDISE I will be sure to contact MOSV about getting future CD's and other items from them at bulk rates. Considering the money they are making from this I doubt they will have any problems. Most likely we will be able to work out a pre-order type deal. LEFT OVER MERCHANDISE We still have several items for those who were unable to attend or were a bit short of cash at the time. There will be a small postage charge but you will still get them at the bulk rate prices that were available Staurday. The prices are: SIRENS OF TIME $20.00 PHANTASMAGORIA $20.00 2000 CALENDER $10.00 There are only a few copies of Phantasmagoria left and I can only sell them on a first come first served basis. Please contact me via private email if you are interested. Thanks again to everybody!!!! Bill P.S. Anybody get why Valentines Day is an appropriate time to celebrate Doctor Who?
