Illinois 68 is an east-west route through the northern suburbs of Chicago, like two other state routes in the sixties (IL60 and IL62). It begins in East Dundee and finds its way to Chicago's near north suburbs near Lake Michigan.
Intersections from west to east:
IL68 begins at IL72 at East Dundee
IL25 at East Dundee
IL68 joins IL62 east at Barrington Hills
As IL62 crosses IL59, IL68 joins IL59 northbound, shortly after the last intersection
IL68 leaves IL59 to head eastbound again
US14 by Inverness
IL68 crosses US12 as IL53, which followed US12 southeast, turns left onto IL68 eastbound; this is near Palatine
IL53 leaves south onto an expressway
IL83 where Buffalo Grove meets Wheeling
IL43 at Northbrook*
IL68 ends in the east at Glencoe, at an interchange with I-94/US41; however, IL68 traffic can only access to I-94/US41 southbound, and only northbound traffic on I-94/US41 can access IL68.*
It passes through these towns: East Dundee, Barrington Hills, Barrington, Inverness, Palatine, Buffalo Grove, Wheeling, Northbrook, and Glencoe.
*- If you want to access I-94 northbound, turn north on IL43. This will take you to an interchange accessing I-94 to/from the north. Conversely, if you want to access IL68 from I-94, exit at IL43 and go south to IL68. To access US41 northbound, turn north onto Skokie Highway; this will take you to US41. Also use Skokie Highway if you are on US41 southbound and you want to access IL68.
