About Yahiko
Yahiko is the son of a samurai who fought for the Shogunate and had died in the war. His mother was poor and worked in the pleasure quarters until she got sick and died. Yakuzas took him and forced him to be a pickpocket. He first met Kenshin when he tried to steal his wallet but Kaoru ran after him and got the wallet back. Kenshin gave his wallet to Yahiko which made Yahiko feel insulted and threw it back at Kenshin. Kenshin said he admired Yahiko's spirit. When Yahiko returned to the yakuza's house, he said he's had enough with stealing and that it's not honorable especially he's the son of a samurai. He got a beating. After Kenshin found out about the yakuza's and beat them, Yahiko wanted to train under Kenshin but Kenshin said that he has no intention of teaching Hiten Mitsurugi but invited him to stay at the Kamiya dojo. There Kaoru trains him the Kamiya Kashin Ryu but their class ends up in a fight because Yahiko would call Kaoru names. At 10, he is already skillful with his bamboo stick (thanks to Kaoru). He admires Kenshin a lot and hopes that someday would be very much like Kenshin.
