Station 2 was organized in 1882. A modern Station was opened in 1902 on W. Main St in the middle of a tobacco factory complex. The current Station 2 opened in 1951 and is the oldest station still in use in the DFD. Station 2 houses, Engine Co.2, Ladder Co. 2, and Battalion 2. Station 2 is first due to North Carolina School of Math and Science, Duke University and Duke Hospital, Veterans Affairs Hospital and a high number of nursing homes. There are also numerous student dorms located near the station. Station 2 also covers Northgate Mall and several commercial structures. Station Two responds to several high rises structures first due, and responds second due to downtown. Station 2 also covers the Ninth Street district consisting of several bars, restaurants and stores. Station 2 also respond to parts of the Durham Freeway and Interstate 85. Station 2 has a long and proud history in the Durham Fire Department. Station 2 is home to the Tactical Rescue Team a specialized rescue company and is also part of the USAR team. |
