GenCon 2002 Bounties

Alderac has started an EZboard GenCon 2002 Bounties page. Ray Lau apparently wants the
Dragons to be corrupted - he's offering a 3-D "Mountain Keep of the Dragon Stronghold"
made by Leon Phillips for the highest placing Corrupt Dragon Deck that takes top 8.

So where's the Honorable Dragon Movement HDM when you need them? Did they all retire?
Were they all killed at the Battle for Oblivion's Gate? Or did they just become old, slow and
apathetic? Maybe their time has passed and we should rely on the Jade Hand to save us from
ourselves?

So far, no bounty for highest ranking non-tainted Dragon. Where is all the famous Dragon
Gold? Did we spend it all on pretty geishas?

Crab and Scorpion Strongholds Previewed

The Razor's Edge Dojo Stronghold (Crab) can be seen at Steel and Iron.

The Shadowed Tower of the Shoshuro Stronghold (Scorpion) can be seen on the pages of
the Ratling Battle Cry!

It's unclear to us why a Ratling site should get the preview instead of a Scorpion site like
Ambassador Bayushi Murai's . . . perhaps AEG thinks that Iguesi is back to his old tricks
of operating The Ninja Shadows? Hummm, maybe AEG knows something that we don't,
like the Ninja are returning? Let's see, the powers of the Living Darkness is now controlled
by the Tainted Air Dragon who is now allied with Daigotsu. If the Shadowlands are reduced
to just being a Faction by Diamond Edition, someone's got to be the "bad guys".

Steel Throne Tainted

In the Broken Blades preview, the Steel Throne was Tainted. What does this mean?
See the Rumours page for speculation.

Rumours section updated with additional information about Daigotsu and the possible collapse of
Rokugan society by the end of the year from internal strife and war.

The Crane Clan get additional dueling support with their new non-unique sensei, Kozue.
Fortunately the card is non-clan specific and we can use the card as well.

Lady Moon's Curse is an interesting anti-tattooed card. Why Alderac would specifically try
to counter tattooed decks is unclear because there haven't been that many winning decks of that
design. Story-wise, this card gets interesting when used against Kokujin, the corrupted tattooed
man who stole Togashi's Daisho.

Tomorrow there will be a Season of the Mantis tournament at Brave New Worlds in
Jenkintown, PA at 6:00 p.m. Format will be 40/40 Gold constructed decks. Entrance
fee is $6.00. Contact Eric (store manager) for more details.

Dragons Place 4th at Origins Kotei

According to Ryoko Owari la Cité des Rumeurs, the Lion Clan won Kotei Origins 2002 with 4th
place belonging to the Dragon. We were tied for second with the Crane in overall tournament points
behind the Phoenix this year. Mirumoto Izo's 1st place finish in the Greece last week now becomes
more significant as the combined finishes let us equal the Crane in points.

(note: Ryoko Owari had originally placed the Dragons 2nd but revised the rankings on July 8th.)

Prelude to Darkness, Part Four: The Curse

Rich Wulf has posted the 4th part of Prelude to Darkness. It's called The Curse.

Synopsis:
Doji Yasuyo is sent by a vision of Lady Doji to train under Kozue, a kenku teacher who originally
taught her ancestor Doji Yasurugi the art of sword play along with the craft of forging katanas.

Four blades were made by Doji Yasurugi with the assistance of Kozue. The fifth blade was Doji
Yasurugi's finest blade and the first to be forged on his own. It was named "Chukandomo" and
was meant to be a gift to the Matsu family to end the feud with the Kakita. Unfortunately theft and
betrayal sabotaged the frendship gesture and the blade's soul turned bitter and spiteful. The wielder
initially gains great power but eventually is destroyed by the dark spirits bound to the blade.

Lady Doji is trying to save Doji Kurohito, and the Crane clan by having a blood relative, cousin
Doji Yasuyo, break the curse. Thus the need to train with Kozue because he the only one who may
know how to break Chukandomo's curse.

Apparently the answer is to be found in Otosan Uchi. New in the story is the fact that Otosan Uchi
is a nexus "... where all Spirit Realms touch one another."

Not being Crane, I had to make a scorecard to remind myself who all the characters are - it's in the
appendix listed below:

Appendix: Who's Who and What's What in the Crane Clan

Doji Kurohito - Current Lord of the Crane Clan and wielder of "Chukandomo", a powerful and
dangerous blade. It was he who beat Hida O-Ushi in her final dual. No one will ever know if it was
skill or if it was "Chukandomo" that finally bested Hida O-Ushi in "A Perfect Cut".

Doji Nagori -  Younger brother to Doji Yasurugi, now a magistrate working with the Emerald
Champion, Daidoji [Yasuki] Hachi.

Doji Yasurugi -  Ancestor to Doji Kurohito and Doji Yasuyo. An early student of Kozue, now
famous for forging 5 sister blades.

Doji Yasuyo -  Cousin to Doji Kurohito and wielder of "Naishi", one of Yasurugi's blades. She is
the older sister to Doji Nagori.

Fuhao -  A mujina who assists Kozue.

Kozue -  1100 year old kenku (non-human) teacher.

Chukandomo - Fifth blade forged by Doji Yasurugi, silver colored with a reclining crane on the
hilt. Said to be cursed by dark spirits, its current wielder is Doji Kurohito.

Naishi -  One of the five sister blades made by Doji Yasurugi. Gold colored, currently held by
Doji Yasuyo. As far as is known, there is no curse on this katana.
