O’Brien, Michael
66 games, 88 goals (1985-1989)
Obst, Andrew
90 games, 48 goals (1987-1989 & 1998-1999)
The third generation of the Obst family to represent Port Adelaide, Andrew Obst was a hard running wingman who was never known to shirk a contest.
When first starting at Port, Obst had a somewhat casual attitude towards football and at one stage decided to play in the Amateur League before then coach John Cahill lured him back to Alberton. Whatever Cahill said must have worked as Obst quickly became one of the most dedicated players at Port and was soon drafted by Melbourne where he became a key player for nearly a decade, playing 149 games.
Obst returned to Alberton in 1998 with the aim of reaching 100 games with the Magpies but was forced to retire at the end of the 1999 season due to health problems.

Ryan O'Connor made an immediate impression at Alberton as a bullocking ruckman, winning the Magarey Medal (in a tie with teammate Tony Brown) and the Port Adelaide Best & Fairest in his first year at Alberton.
Originally from the ACT, O'Connor played for Essendon and Sydney until injuries and the increasing pace of the AFL caught up with him. |
O’Donovan, David
1 game, 0 goals (1984)
O’Loughlin, Ricky
46 games, 53 goals (1999-2001)
It appears Ricky O'Loughlin will always play under the shadow of his illustrious brother Michael but Ricky has played some useful games for Port Adelaide as a running midfielder.
O'Loughlin has played for Port when not required by the Adelaide Crows and the pressure of needing to perform every week to retain his spot in the Crows side obviously affected him.
A common complaint about O'Loughlin was his tendancy towards poor disposal which led to his axing from the Crows.
O'Loughlin was drafted by the Swans at the end of the 2001 season.
Olsen, Troy
37 games, 52 goals (1994-1995)
Ormond-Allen, Trent
44 games, 27 goals (1997-2001)
Trent Ormond-Allen is a courageous player who has occasionally shown sparks of brilliance. This brilliance however has been interspersed with bouts of poor form.
Ormond-Allen was a star colts player with Port Adelaide when he was drafted by Melbourne in 19xx. At first he decided to stay with the Magpies for another year but moved to the Demons midway through the season following frustration that he could not break into the Port Adelaide reserve team.
Ormond-Allen played a few seasons for Melbourne before being traded to the Crows (and thus returning to Port Adelaide). His moment of AFL fame came when he was swung into the ruck by Malcolm Blight against St Kilda and, to the surprise of all, won a number of tap outs against Saints ruckman Peter Everett. His career never reached such heights again however and he was cut by the Crows at the end of the 2000 season.
Ormond-Allen's career with the Magpies has been just as spasmodic and culminated in his trade to South Adelaide at the end of 2001.
