Mahney, Wayne
108 games, 92 goals (1984-1991)
Originally from Darwin, Mahney was a tough rover who was drafted by Footscray in 1986. Not surprisingly, he decided to remain at Port Adelaide .
Malakellis, Spiro
17 games, 9 goals (1995-1997)
Malakellis, Tony
70 games, 81 goals (1994-1998)
Along with brother Spiro, Tony Malakellis was lured across to Alberton from Geelong to assist Port's small man brigade. Spiro struggled for a regular game but Tony Malakellis was a consistently strong performer whose time at Port was cut short by heavy business commitments.
Manouge, Richard
7 games, 4 goals (1982)
Manouge switched to Port Adelaide after 100 games with West Torrens but found it difficult to cement a birth in the stronger Port line up.
Martyn, Anthony
15 games, 3 goals (1981)
May, Trevor
10 games, 16 goals (1994)
McDougall, Stephen
1 game, 0 goals (1988)
McDowall, Nathan
20 games, 21 goals (1999-2001)
McGuinness, Phil
134 games, 177 goals (1996-2002)
Younger brother of Tony, Phil McGuinness was perhaps a touch unlucky not to play AFL football.
McKay, Darren
85 games, 46 goals (1990-1998)
McLeod, Andrew
23 games, 35 goals (1994-1996)
All-Australian: 1998
Adelaide Best & Fairest: 1997
Norm Smith Medallist: 1997 & 1998
Hailing from the Northern Territory, Andrew McLeod, like so many others before and since, moved to Port Adelaide to train in Port's renowned junior development program.
Making his debut in 1994, McLeod quickly made his mark with the Magpies and began to catch the attention of AFL scouts. In one of the game's great buggerups, Fremantle, who had first dibs on McLeod, swapped him to Adelaide for Chris Groom. McLeod has since proven him to be one of Australian Football's stars and while rumour occasionally links McLeod with the Power, it unfortunatley appears that McLeod won't be returning to Alberton any time soon.
Mead, Darren
122 games, 8 goals (1997-2002)
127 games, 20 goals (1989-1996 & 2002)
Premierships 1994, 1995 & 1996
Best & Fairest 1997
Hailing from Ceduna, Darren Mead is the latest in a long line of distinguished Port Adelaide Centre Half Backs, including Greg Phillips, Marty Leslie and Danny Hughes.

|
Mead made his debut at Alberton in 1989, having already been drafted by Essendon and soon became a permanent fixture of the Port backline, playing key roles in the 1994/95/96 premiership trifecta.
Mead was one of the first players recruited to the Power and his dogged close checking and ability to successfully run off his opponent led him to be awarded the inaugural Port Power Best & Fairest.
Recent injuries have led to speculation about Mead's future but he remains one of the most reliable defenders in the competition. |
Monoghan, Richard
1 game, 0 goals (1990)
Montgomery, Brett
70 games, 32 goals (2000-2002)
Best & Fairest 2000
|
|
Montgomery started his career as a high leaping forward at the Western Bulldogs before being recruited to Port Adelaide in a trade for Nathan Eagleton. Port has enjoyed that deal as Montgomery quickly made his mark with the Power, winning the Club Best & Fairest in his debut season and remaining an effective defender with Port. |
