   MELLOWING LEAVES
   Poetry & Essay

        no bells ringing

        after we exchanged "I do's"
          were the twain of us
          joined truly into one?
          for richer or for poorer?
          in sickness and in health?

          then why can't you share
          your toothbrush with me
          and why do you have
          to drink your dreams
          on a separate glass cup?

far apart are  we even before death
wide-dead is the space  within our bed
         "I do's" metamorphosed into "I don'ts"
          sanctity asundered and plundered.
