Qui-Gon Jinn

QUI-GON JINN
(Human male: Jedi Knight)

Qui-Gon Jinn is an accomplished member of the Jedi Order. Considered to be one of the most skilled lightsaber swordsmen of his age, Qui-Gon fought many battles alongside other legendary warriors, such as his friend Plo Koon. Qui-Gon believed in following one's instincts, and the will of the living Force, which made him a compassionate Jedi, aware of the feelings of all life forms around him. Unfortunately, Qui-Gon's impetuous nature also easily distracted him from his assigned tasks, and his rebellious spirit kept him from ever sitting on the Jedi Council.

Qui-Gon trained three padawans in his lifetime. His first was a success, but his second, Xanatos, fell to the Dark Side of the Force. Qui-Gon reluctantly accepted a third padawan, Obi-Wan Kenobi, at the prompting of Jedi master Yoda. Over the subsequent years, Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan had many adventures, forced to do battle with the treacherous Xanatos often.

Near the end of Obi-Wan's training, Qui-Gon was sent with his padawan to Naboo by the Republic's Chancellor, to negotiate an end to the Trade Federation's blockade of the planet. The Federation attempted to assasinate the Jedi ambassadors, and Qui-Gon was forced to flee Naboo, taking Queen Amidala with him. Their plan was to return to Coruscant and expose the Federation's criminal actions, but when their escape ship was damaged they had to land on the nearby world of Tatooine to make repairs.

On Tatooine, Qui-Gon met a nine year old boy named Anakin Skywalker who was very strong in the Force. Qui-Gon became convinced that Anakin was the prophesized "Chosen One", intended to bring balance to the Force. Qui-Gon decided to take Anakin with him and present the boy to the Jedi Council, but before the Jedi could leave Tatooine he was confronted by a lightsaber wielding warrior.

Qui-Gon managed to escape the confrontation, and took Anakin before the Council, but the Council was more interested in the dark warrior. They feared that, as Qui-Gon himself suggested, the warrior was a Sith lord. Qui-Gon was sent to back to Naboo to uncover the identity of the warrior. The warrior indeed resurfaced on Naboo to aid the Federation in their battle with Amidala. Qui-Gon dueled with the Sith Lord in order to protect the Queen, who was trying to liberate her planet from Federation forces.

Initially aided by Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon forced his opponent away from the rest of the Naboo battle, but eventually the old Jedi's strength gave out, and the Sith lord killed him with a lightsaber blow to the chest. Obi-Wan used his fallen master's weapon to destroy the assassin, but he could not stop Qui-Gon from dying.

Qui-Gon was given a Jedi's funeral, mourned by the entire Council and many comrades. His dying wish had been that the "Chosen One" be trained as a Jedi, so Obi-Wan saw to it by becoming Anakin's master.
