The son of William and Mary (Parker) Longley, was born at Groton,
Massachusetts, May 23, 1734. He died at Shirley, Mass. Jan. 9, 1813, with burial
in the Shirley Centre cemetery. On Aug. 8, 1763, at Lancaster, Mass. he
married, Lydia Warrensford (in some records Wallingford), daughter of
Ezekiel and Lydia (Brown), born Jan. 15, 1738/39 at Lancaster; death date
unknown.
William and Lydia had nine children:
1. Ezekiel, b. March, 1763, Shirley, Mass. (Shirley VR), or Aug. 4, 1756
(RW Papers); d. April 8, 1845, Pittsford, Vermont; m. 1. Mary Swan, 2. Lucy Ellis.
2. Abigail, b. 1764, Shirley; d. June 2, 1817; a member of the Shaker
community at Shirley.
3. Isreal, b. Nov. 2, 1766, Shirley; d. Aug. 24, 1819, Shirley; m. 1. Lucy
Conant, 2. Mrs. Sally Tarbell.
4. Lydia, b. 1768, Shirley; m. Sept. 29, 1800, Asa Gale.
5. Sarah, b. 1773, Shirley; d. Sept. 14, 1818; a member of the Shaker community.
6. Ivory, b. 1775, Shirley; d. Jan. 14, 1808, Shirley; m. Apr. 5, 1797,
Lucy Munroe.
7. William, b. Shirley; d. 1836, Pittsford, Vermont; m. Sept. 20, 1794, Rebecca
Munjoy.
8. Elijah, b. July 15, 1778, Shirley; d. Aug. 18, 1821, Shirley; m. Apr. 17,

History books have recorded few facts pertaining to William Longley. "
He lived in a house at the north-east corner of the door-yard of the present
residence of the late Thomas Hazen. (1873) He followed in the footsteps of
his father, both as a miller and agriculturaligist, and wore the dusty
coat of his craft unto an old age." History of Shirley.
William died at Shirley in 1813 and was buried in the cemetery at Shirley
Centre. Next to his tombstone is the grave of his daughter-in-law, Rebecca.
The grave of his wife, Lydia, has not been located. The inscription on his
tombstone reads:
In memory of Mr. William Longley, Who died Janr. 9, 1818, in
the 75th year of his age. That Soverign God who set my bounds, Saw
fit to take my breath, Be ready then each hour you live, To meet an
instant death.
