The son of William and Lydia (Warringsford/Wallingford) Longley,
was born at Shirley, Massachusetts in March, 1763 and died in March, 1834.
He married 1. Oct. 3, 1784, Mary Swan, who died at Lancaster shortly after
the birth of their last child. He married 2. July 5, 1823, Chittendon, Vermont,
Lucy Ellis. No issue.
Ezekiel and Mary Longley had nine children:
1. David, b. March or May 27, 1786, Shirley, Mass.
2. Mary, b. Feb. 25, 1788, Harvard, Mass.; m. Ira Pinson.
3. William, b. May 23, 1790, Shirley, Mass.; d. Pittsford, Vermont.
4. Emery, b. March 11, 1792, Shirley, Mass.
5. Joseph, b. Oct. 29, 1794, Shirley, Mass.d. April 5, 1870, Sullivan, Jefferson
County, Wisconsin; m. 1. Mary; m. 2. Clarissa.
6. Infant, b. Lancaster, Mass., ill 24 hours, Sept. 29, 1796.
7. Jacob, b. July 1, 1801, Shirley; was taken in by Mr. Samuel Morrison, of Stoddard,
New Hampshire when an infant; m. Mar. 10, 1831, Hepzibah Ames. and lived in Peterboro,
New Hampshire.
8. Solomon, b. Oct. 20, 1804, Shirley; d. Sept. 9, 1882, Chittenden, Vt.; m.
1. Mar. 5, 1824, Hannah Pike; m. 2. Aug. 28, 1857, Caroline
Davenport.
9. Osmyn, b. July 16, 1806, Shirley.
Ezekiel Longley lived in Shirley, Harvard and Lancaster, Massachusetts. His
wife, Mary, died in Lancaster sometime after 1806 and his home was broken up
and his children taken in by others. He moved to Chittenden, Rutland County,
Vermont where he spent most of his remaining years. He died at Pittsford,
a few miles from Chittenden. There is some confusion as to the date of his
death, which is listed in various sources as: March, 1834; April 6, 1835, and
January 14, 1837. (Note: From the Chittenden Town Records we find that some of
Ezekiel's sons moved to Vermont with him. David, William and Emery are all
listed as purchasing or selling land in that town.)
On July 13, 1832, Ezekiel Longley prepared and applied for a pension as a veteran
of the Revolutionary War, which he filed on Sept. 6, 1832 at Boylston in
Worcester County, Mass.
From Revolutionary Soldiers and Sailors in the War of the Revolution,
pp. 925-026: "Longley, Ezekiel. Private, Capt. Isaac Wood's Company, Col.
Jonathan Reed's Regiment of guards; muster rolls dated Cambridge, May 9, and
June 1, 1778; enlisted Mar. 31, 1778; enlistment 3 months from Apr. 2 (also
given Apr. 1), 1778; also, same Co. and Regt.; joined Apr. 1, 1778;
service 3 months, 4 days, at Cambridge; also Capt. John Porter's Company, Col.
Cypian How's Regiment, Commandant John Jacob's brigade, enlisted July 26, 1780;
discharged Oct. 30, 1780; service 3 months, 9 days, at Rhode Island, including
travel (80 miles) home; regiment raised for 3 months." War Pension Number
