Hey Guys I think the jokes gone far enough Posted Fri Jun 9 13:58:13 BST 2000 by Danny Wallace

Hey guys, DW here.
Must say you've got a pretty impressive sight here. Not as good as mine, but not bad at all. Suits you.

So, OK, I can take a joke, otherwise I wouldn't be a comedy journalist, would I. But I've gotta say gang I think you're being a bit unfair.

Take this whole only plugging my mates thing-
yes it's true I like the Boosh, but who doesn't ? Crazy guys and very, very funny.

It's not true that I just get gigs via my mates. For example, I'm currently working on a BBC Choice, BBC 2 series, with Dave Gorman where we travel round the world (at the licensepayers expense) finding other Dave Gormans and taking their photos- mad or what.
We've been to New York, Ireland, Norway- just think of the cost of the flights- but who's counting- I'm not.
I think you'd agree it's a hot idea, finding other people with the same name. Alan Partridge may have got their first, but I'm the one with the vision to make it happen.

The fact that Dave Gorman is a best mate and a flatmate of many years is pure coinicidence. My role on the series is on merit alone. The interview was this:

Are you a close personal friend of Mr Gorman who he insists must be given a main role in the production of the show or he won't do the series ?

Well Okay, I fitted the bill, but yours truly happened to be the man for the job.

Keep up the crazy gang work.

Byee

PS It's all true you know- like it or not I'll get my name on screen. Aha ha. Suits me.

From the producer, director and camerman- the one man dynamo of THE DAVE GORMAN show-
Yours truly- Britain's premiere comedy journo

Is this really Danny Wallace? No journalist can be that illiterate, surely? ;)

Good to see you spotted my deliberate mistakes. Just checking.

Can't chat for the long, this week's issue of Funny Talk awaits.

I thought I'd test the water here, just to prove I really do know how to share a joke with the best of them.

I really want to show that all this success straight out of university, Westminster University, one of the best new ones, hasn't gone to my head.

Speak to you later, gotta e-mail The Boosh Boys and Laser Boy Noble about this site.

It's a good piece of work.

Keep trying.

This is DW straight from NY about to go out on the town with Dave.

Seeya

You're right it is a good try

Look out for Who is Dave Gorman where I track down other Dave Gormans.

So far we've met a traffic cop, a sign painter and someone from Norway.

It's going to be something very new

My feeling is similar to the way I felt about The Word, really: if it's a spoof, it's genius, if it isn't (and I suspect it may not be)...er, well, it isn't.

What are you talking about ?

This site is full of bitter, twisted wannabes on the finges of comedy.

Well whoever it is seems to know something about them ?

But that Dave Gorman thing has to be a joke, surely that's a made-up idea for a show.

That was an Alan Partridge show idea.

Not even the arch dickheads in the beeb would commission that ...would they ?

Besides how can anyone take that twat seriously, just imagine Mr Gorman trimming that fucking stupid pube beard with minute clippers. All of that effort to look like a character out of Willow

Is there any way to check the Gorman thing out ?

It's a wind-up. No way that Gorman thing is for real

Maybe. The Boosh one's a bit obvious.

But I don't know...why make that all up ?
Subject: Re: Hey Guys I think the jokes gone far enough
Posted By Danny Wallace on Fri Jun 9 16:38:29 BST 2000:

No

The joke is definitely on your end, The Corpses.

The Gorman thing is in production now and I'm the producer, director, cameraman - the whole caboodle.

And it'll be very, very funny

See I can take a joke, but I couldn't resist a dig at you fuckers.

Like it or not...I'm here to stay

Anyone who is prepared to be that smug about their upcoming project really does deserve all they get.

Just maybe it isn't really Danny Wallace e-mailing a site that has 3 pages dedicated to taking the piss out of him.

Maybe someone who knows what's in production at BBC.

Think about it.

or maybe it's just a hideously bad joke.

Yeah, alright - I've read the 'Wallace' postings a bit more carefully now!

So (to go back to a question that hasn't really been answered yet) what has he done to have got the Beeb's seal of approval? Is he a stand-up, a writer, a critic? Anyone?

That doesn't mean it is him of course ...
