Total Miles Traveled: 3949
Location (at the end of the day): Wahweap Campground (Page, AZ)
We decided a good way to start the day was to wake up, so that was the first thing we did. We then piled the car back up and journeyed to Wahweap Marina (one of the only places which you can launch a boat on Lake Powell). After getting a campsite for the night, we went into Page to get the boat that we rented for the day. With 19' open bow boat in tow (on a rental vehicle), the boys went to launch the boat while the girls went to grab lunch for later.
After a bit, we were finally all set to go! We knew that the trip to Rainbow Bridge would be about 50 miles. According to the boat guy, it would take about 2 1/2 hours (minimum 5 hours round-trip). So we pretty much got in the boat and cruised at a quick pace to get there.
Due to the boat traffic on the water, the beginning was a pretty bumpy ride. A little further out, we hit some choppy water too. However, we journeyed on while trying to make sure that we didn't get lost in one of the many off-shooting canyons. After a quick stop for gas, we finished the trip to Rainbow Bridge. It was really neat to see, however...it took a really long time to get there. We only stayed for a few minutes since we wanted to make sure that we got the boat back in time. So, we cruised back again at a very quick pace.
We stopped at one point on our way back to take a quick dip in the lake, but then we had to go again. When we got back to the marina, John and Kate went to get the trailer. Well, due to a lack of tow vehicles at that time, John and Kate were bored at the rental place...Jen was standing on land guarding our stuff...and Rob was trying to not use all the gas since he had to putt around the harbor and wait. Overall, the boat renting experience wasn't that bad...the idea was actually a good one. However (don't you love it when you see that word), although Rainbow Bridge was nice to see...I think that we all agree that the trip may not have really been worth it. If any of us ever rent a boat again on Lake Powell (which may happen), the time on the lake will be used to explore the myriad of canyons and go swimming as much as we want!
After finally getting back to the campsite, it was time to set up the tents. This would be the point that we noticed a huge red ant hill in the middle of our campsite, along with a couple of unidentified holes. Either way, we set the tents up close together bordering the next campsite. We went for a quick swim (in a pool), ate dinner, hung out a bit and then went to sleep.
