Unfortunately we have had major problems here - our computer stopped working! But it's been couriered interstate and back and now it's all fixed. Just in time for me to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and to let you know what I've been up to lately! Woof! In the heat of Summer we've had a new visitor lately...a Copperhead snake. Just as my "Granny" opened the front door, he arrived and poked his little head in the door and waved it about in a friendly manner. Suffice to say the door was abruptly shut and he slithered off, probably rather disappointed at the lack of hospitality. He hung around for a couple of days, and luckily he was not an easy snake to provoke because Rory tried to round him up like a sheep! A less mild-mannered snake would have nipped him on the nose. However he did seem to decide that maybe this wasn't the place for him and hasn't been seen since. I've been enjoying lots of refreshing swims in my brilliant dam lately, it's fabulous having my own personal swimming hole. We have a lovely Christmas tree up here, but Rory keeps trying to steal the decorations from it and the presents from underneath! Our special "doggy stockings" (complete with doggy chocolate - yum!) have to be hung up high behind the tree so Rory won't eat them! Anyway that's all really, I've just been doing "the usual" mostly - eating, sleeping and swimming.
Have a great festive season everyone!

Woof! I've been a bit slack in updating you guys on the wild happenings in my life! Well OK, maybe nothing much has happened but still...
The other day a water bird rather like a duck, called a cormorant, came calling on Rory and me. It swam in our dam for a while, which upset us, so we chased it around and around. However whenever we got close it would just duck under the water and turn up at the other side metres away! I gave up pretty quickly but Rory swam after it for hours. Eventually he tired it out, grabbed it by the wing and dragged it ashore. Sadly for him, his dreams of a roast cormorant dinner were soon put to bed, as he was screamed at from the humans nearby. Being the good boy that he is (very occasionally), he put it down and let it swim off. Not able to stand the sight of it getting away he decided to chase it some more and ended up being unceremoniously dragged away and locked in his pen. So it was up to me to chase the pesky bird away the next day - I didn't want it eating all our fish!
As for the site, well we do have the new Leroy photo gallery up for you! To see some cute photos of the little pest, and some stunning ones of me, check out Bess + Leroy.
Apart from all that Rory's just been up to his usual echidna chasing and barking at, and I've been enjoying the nice warm weather as we head towards the Australian Summer.
Oh yeah, and it was my birthday last month too! Now I'm 6! Sheesh seems I was just a young pup struggling to get up the two steps outside our house only a month ago...
Well that's all my faithful followers,
With love,
~Bess

Hiya! We finally have some Leroy pictures to show you, so here is the little twerp in the flesh (with a mysterious gorgeous blonde)!
The Leroy King Psst! My what a tail you have!

We're working on a gallery with these and a few more pics...just something to look out for in the near future!
There hasn't been an awful lot happening around here since my last update, but I'm sorry to have to tell you that the Essendon Bombers lost the AFL Grand Final on Saturday. Nevermind, there's always next year!
Today we just added a new feature...it's all about what to feed your dogs! We've learnt a few things about it, so we're sharing our tips in the hope that they may help. Did you know, for instance, that onions are bad for dogs? So to find out about a dog's dinner check out our new section!
Also our friend Marcus has been messing around with a few pics... visit Star Bess to see where I've popped up recently!
Love to you all!

Note from G:
We at the Universe send our sincerest condolences to those affected by the abominable terrorist attacks on the U.S. You are in our thoughts.

Business here in Australia has, for the most part, carried on as usual - although we have also been touched by the scale of the tragedy. If you would like to add a ribbon to your page then you can grab one here.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming...

Howdy pardners, tis Bess again. Last weekend I went to visit Leroy, and we had a lovely time. Well I did, revisiting my old romping field, swimming in my old favourite dam and licking out the 'glop' buckets under the public barbeques. Leroy 'foofed' up when he saw me - he didn't remember me! Silly kitty! We played a bit but he certainly wasn't nestling up to me. We have some great new photos, which will be up soon so you can finally see the fellow!

G tells me that yesterday she and her friend Kelly went to the Melbourne Show. They saw the "Pal Wonderdogs" performing their agility/obedience act. One was a labby just like me (but a boy...and more obedient...) but unfortunately G didn't get his number for me *sigh*.

Oh and although I've never met him, I'd like to say "Get Well Soon!" to Marcus' cat Sampson. :D I know what it's like recuperating and it ain't much fun! But afterwards when you get to run rampant again it's heavenly!

The Bombers supporters around here have been rejoicing - Essendon have made it into the AFL Grand Final, to be held next Saturday. Go Bombers!

Farewell for now my dears!
*Pawshakes*

AWWWRIGHTTTT!!! The Bombers smashed Richmond in the rematch of the year, by a huge 70 points (or more than 11 goals if you like). And furthermore, we Aussies have to celebrate Lleyton Hewitt's fantastic US Open win! Go Lleyton!! As for me, I've been lounging around mostly. Today I went for a fabulous walk, topped off with a swim and now I'm snoring on the couch! (Whilst simultaneous filling this out...aren't I multitalented? Is this what humans call multitasking?) This week I might visit Leroy again...and if I do I'll try to get some photos of the little blighter for you all! He's only going to be a tomcat for one more week, now that he's 6 months old it's time to take his 'crown jewels'. Please everybody, neuter and spey your pets too, it's what all responsible pet owners do!
Love and licks,
~Bess

Sadly everybody, I have to report that our beloved Bombers lost on Friday... :( Nevertheless they will have their chance to avenge the loss this weekend, when they meet the Richmond Tigers again in the first round of the finals. Rory and I have spent considerably less time dwelling on this than our human counterparts, however. Sunday was bath day, which was a bit of excitement we must admit. Firstly we went tramping through the forest, chasing kangaroos and generally having a fine time, before sprinting to the nearest billabong and dunking ourselves thoroughly. Since we were already well and truly soaked, it seemed a reasonable time to G (I can't imagine why!) to give us a bath. So after the humiliation of being immersed, lathered, rinsed and towelled, we got to spend the night smelling nice and fresh (which is particularly annoying because we had just rolled in some fine reeking, rotting gunk on our walk!) and lying near the fire. Then yesterday Rory escaped our yard, which I might add is barricaded like Fort Knox and I can't work out how to escape it, by jumping the 6 foot fence. He actually does this regularly, I've heard it is because he is a "villain". Whatever that is.... Anyway he spent quite some time afterwards barking at a poor local echidna who was burrowing desperately in an attempt to escape him. All Rory could see was a moving mass of spikes throwing up random clumps of dirt, so I can see why he was puzzled!
Now for all you pug lovers, we have added something new. Recently the breed was road tested on Burke's Backyard, and we have a summary of it for you in the Pug Profile. Well beloved readers, that is all for today.
My best woofs to you all!!

Howdy pardners! As Essendon Bomber supporters in the Australian Rules Football League, we here at the universe are thrilled! G's going tonight to watch our beloved Bombers, who are top of the ladder I might mention, in the last round before the finals. Go Bombers we say!! Meantime, Rory and I have been racing around like mad things in the back yard, usually knocking aside a potplant or several! Sadly there isn't much else to report, except a little update on my buddy Leroy! He's growing up nicely, the little cutie! I will have to go and visit him soon, hopefully he'll save a purr for me! Have a lovely weekend guys!

Hiya everybody! I've been quite busy lately, and so has G! Today we were staggered to receive the much-coveted "Critical Mass" award. It's our biggest achievement to date, and we're so thrilled. Meanwhile I've been supervising the addition of some great new fun features to our little cyber universe. Check out our new games gallery whilst the paint is still drying, or send a doggy greeting card to someone! If you or a furry friend of yours has a groovy website too, don't miss your opportunity to add a link to it at our new add a link page! Ooh and you can now search our site if you are after something specific, once again just check out our main page, that's where a lot of the action is!
I've just dug myself a cosy nest in the lambswool rug on the floor. I'm a little confused...am I a bird or a dog? If they keep taking me to that vet's and sticking me in a cage I'll be sure to start chirping and flapping my legs! Although lately I've been in fine form, so let's hope I don't need to visit those nasty cages for a long time yet. Recently Rory and I have been having lots of fun chasing the local kangaroos in the unseasonally beautiful weather we've been lucky enough to enjoy. Infact I decided today that it was once again warm enough to swim in my dam! However it is still Winter, and G didn't quite agree with me! Well I guess that's all...anyway it's past my bedtime *yawn*. Please feel free to tell me what you think of our new features in the guestbook, and to request anything else you'd like to see at the universe!
Later,
- Bess

Today Rory and I went frolicking in the real forest! I sniffed out a fox and gave it a good chasing, but it got away! After my earlier exertion I'm now pooped, spending the evening curled up in front of the fire on my blanket on the couch. Ahh!
-Bess

I haven't been up to anything especially thrilling lately, or I would have filled you all in! I can't munch on bones anymore, much to my great annoyance, as they seem to clog me up. Unfortunately, that means a visit to the vet and great humiliation whilst they grope around in my intestines trying to clean things up. One vet said the contents of said intestines, after chewing on a bone, were hard enough to build skyscrapers with! I think that's a compliment...? I've been filling in the time by happily frolicking in the forest with my friend Rory. When I get too hot I like to drop to the ground and wallow in a nice dirty puddle. Sometimes G thinks I'm descended from a hog... Little Leroy the kitty is growing up, he's four months old now. Unfortunately he's rather 'prickly' though. I don't think much of those razor-sharp fangs of his - nor his needle-like claws! It's still Winter here in Australia, and I'm patiently waiting for some cheerier weather so that I can paddle in my dam all day. In the meantime I'm content to lie inside in front of the fire. Goodbye for now,
-Bess

Wow, things have changed a bit! G has decided that although she definitely would love to work with animals, Veterinary Science just may not be for her. The subjects in 1st year Science were thoroughly unenjoyable so she decided to take the rest of this year off to reconsider things. Now she is living with Rory and me all the time! The best part of that is that most days I get to go with her to pick up the mail, which is a 40 minute walk and lots of fun! Last weekend she took me back to my old home to meet the new resident. Leroy the kitten has just moved in, and he and I quickly became firm friends. At night we curled up together on the couch, in fact one night he even suckled on me as if I was his Mummy! The little fella got a bit annoying when he insisted on boxing my nose with his small paws, however I'm glad I got to meet him. Rory spent the weekend sulking on the couch because I had an adventure and he didn't! Unfortunately today is the last day before Winter here in Australia. That means it's just too darn cold to swim in my lovely dam at the moment, which is such a pity. Instead of swimming, Rory and I spend our time racing around our own personal 'forest' out the back like mad things, and play-wrestling. Well, that's all that I can think of to report.

Ok now for some more substance. Here's what's been happening:

*About a month ago I moved to an exciting new home. Now my buddy Rory and I are on a 2 acre property with a lovely dam! I adore swimming in it with the fish! At our new place we have kangaroos leaping past the fence, we're surrounded by lots of friendly kookaburras, magpies, beautiful parrots, cheeky possums and there are rumoured to be koalas in the immediate area. So as you can imagine we're really in our element!

*Last month G started studying Science at Melbourne University. She's hoping to use it as a springboard into Veterinary Science. (Then'll she'll be able to look after us well into our old age!) Apparently the Physics, Chemistry and Maths aren't an awful lot of fun but Biology is going well.

*Now Woolie and I live 2 hours apart. He is actually owned by the "C" in "G & C's Lab and Pug Universe" and it is a common misconception that he and I lived together. To set things straight, although we lived in the same country town for years, we were only ever cyberbuddies. We didn't live together! We're from two different families. Rory is my real life buddy.

*I had a lovely Easter break and hope you all did too! G visited in a week off from University and took me for lots of lovely walks! Plus there was an extra person around to feed me! Unfortunately, however, I didn't get any chocolate. I will bring you up to speed on my latest movements again soon, when there is more to report.
- Bess

23/4/2001
*I've recently moved house!
Details on my new surroundings later.

*G started studying at Melbourne University during March. She's hoping to become a Vet....

*I'll add to this soon and keep you posted!
-Bess

Important note to all dog owners:
Chocolate is toxic to dogs and should not be fed to your pets.
