Shawn MichaelsTHE HEARTBREAK KID SHAWN MICHAELS
PWF Champion
Dec. 7, 2005 - Jan. 18, 2006

It didn't take long for challengers to start coming out of the woodwork to want to take on new champ John Cena. Way Above Average Mike Sanders, Cena's rival from the late summer and early fall months, was quick to point out that not only had Cena never been able to pin him, but that he, himself, had actually defeated Cena in a Steel Cage match. Based on all of this, Sanders was granted a future title match. Also in line for title shots was The Undefeatable Chris Jericho, as well as former PWF Champion Lance Storm.

However, before Cena could defend against any of those men, he would have to face the Lethal Lottery at Nuclear Frost. In a Triple Threat match, SuperStar Stevie Richards of the bWo and the Hearbreak Kid Shawn Michaels of D-Generation X were drawn as his opponents, and -- in a shocking twist -- Michaels was victorious after some controversial happenings. The Heartbreak Kid lept into the main event, but then found himself having inherited Cena's rivalries and not just his title. Michaels came out ahead in the Lethal Lottery, but the future didn't look bright, with Sanders, Jericho, and Storm -- and a potential rematch with Cena -- all on the horizon. Dec. 7, though, belonged to the Showstopper.
