Del Wilkes mysteriously vanished from the SCW prior to a scheduled title defense against Excellence, and so the title was declared vacant. Excellence had won a brutal hardcore match against Raven to be named No. 1 contender, so he and the last champion prior to Wilkes, Mr. Perfect, were signed to a match to determine the new World Champion. It was a technical showcase between the two founding members of the Perfect Team, with both men giving it their all in pursuit of the gold. Perfect got the win and his third title in a truly remarkable bout.
