Call him whatever you like; he is by far the most deadliest of the Mobile Suit pilots. We know more about Duo's past than the other pilots. Duo was one of the many children left to fend for himself after the war killed his parents. He and other orphans scrounged the streets of their colony looking for food, and they got it any way possible. While he was eventually caught, he was taken in by the priest of a church caled the Maxwell Church. There, Duo cleaned up his life (which helps explain why he dresses like a minister throughout Gundam Wing). Duo's hair was braided by his favorite nun at the Maxwell Church. When asked about his hairstyle by other characters, Duo said "it made it easier to steal and not get caught." He kept the hair ever since. Eventually, the war returned to Duo's colony. Soldiers stormed the Maxwell Church and demanded things from the priest. Overhearing the soldiers talking about needing a Mobile Suit, Duo told them he would retrieve one for them. By dodging military defenses at a local base, Duo was able to steal a suit. But when he returned th Maxwell Street, he found the church completely destroyed, the priests dead, and the nun dying. With her last words, she told Duo that the father kept peace in his heart and Duo in his mind until the very end. Duo had seen his parents die, and now his surrogate family was dead, too. From that time forward, he used the name "Shinigami," which in Japanese religion means, "The God of Death." Eventually, Duo met up with Professor G, the long-nosed, bowl-cut-wearing scientist. Professor G designed the Deathscythe Gundam for close and quick combat, and he optimized the machine for Duo because of Duo's miraculous piloting skills. Later in the series when Oz troops captured Duo's Deathscythe, they made an example of it and broadcast its destruction liva via satellite. Duo is also captured soon after, along with Professor G, Wufei and Heero. Professor G began construction on an upgraded version of Deathscythe, which he cleverly named, "Deathscythe Hell."
