October 27, 2006 - Friday

Cloudy, but then clearing.

I had an okay day today. I woke up at a reasonable time and got up. Then, I napped on the couch for a while. Sigh. After a bit, I got up and went off and had my shower.

I had a really nice breakfast today. I used some of yesterday's leftover veggies and I heated them up and put them in my omelette. That was nice. I'd also saved a bit of the cooking water to mix with the omelette too.

Around 1 I left for work. I got to the school and set up. I even managed to get my next lesson planned for my student, so that was good. After our class, I did some prepping for my other classes this week. And, I changed the black ink cartridge in my photocopier for the first time. Yay me.Then, I went out for a quick lunch.

I went off to Gusto. It's not the greatest restaurant, but it's cheap and they have a drink bar! That way I get to drink what I want. I did just notice today that they took away the diet coke though. It's now grape juice. Sigh.

After my meal I went back to the school and did a bit of Halloween crafts. I had downloaded some stuff from Crayola.com and so I did a bit of colouring. I made a witch to stand up on the counter. I decided not to make her scary as I have young students. I did make her pretty I thought. I was colouring away, not really looking at the time, when I looked down at myself. I'd changed out of my work clothes to go to the restaurant, but I hadn't changed back into them! Ack! I'm glad I noticed when I did or I might have had to wear my casual clothes in my class.

My two evening lessons went quite well. The child finished early and so I let him do the same colouring project that I did. He got to take his home with him.

My final student and I had a great discussion. We were talking about things that were exciting or that we were excited by, for example. She asked me what I was interested in and I told her a bit about my book, The Book Nobody Read, and how it was about the search for Copernicus's book. I talked for a bit about it, answering her questions and she was surprised that I'd be interested in that. I think it's not so much the subject matter, after all, what do I know about Astronomy, but it's the book factor. I'm a book fanatic. Books about books, movies about books, just fascinate me. Later on, we got into politics. It was a very interesting class. She's quite a lady.

After class, I did my paperwork and then I left my school. I went to the grocery store and bought a few groceries. Then, I came home.

After a couple of minutes at my computer to check email, I started dinner. I used a package of sliced pork and added a whole jar of kimchee to it. I stirfried that for a while, then added a couple of beaten eggs just a bit before I thought it was ready. I put a lid on the frypan and let it steam away. We had it with a salt-daikon salad, and some "shu-mei" that I bought at the grocery store. It was delicious. Fumihiko had made coffee for us to drink and we had a very nice meal. Fumihiko was raving about it, so I guess he liked it!

He did the dishes, bless him, and I checked email. And, that is that. My day. It wasn't too bad at all.

Oh, I have a challenge for you gentle readers....could you list your favourite books or movies about books in the comments? I don't mean movies based on books, but actual movies where people either read books, or talk about books. I'm thinking of a quick project if I can do it in time!

My favourite movies about books......

  1. 84 Charing Cross Road- Anthony Hopkins and Anne Bancroft in a love story about books and booksellers. Based on a true story.
  2. The Lake House - Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock discuss Persuasion, amongst other things.
  3. Grease 2 - Michelle Pfeiffer and Maxwell Caulfield sit around discussing Shakespeare.
  4. What else? Help me out!

    Books about books....

    1. The Reader (see my bookworm page)
    2. The Book Nobody Read (because I don't mention it enough on my blog!)
    3. The Bookman series(about an ex-policeman who turns bookseller)
    4. Any Kinsey Milhone novel...she often reads Dick Francis(woot!)
    5. Okay, that's it for now. I hope to see lots of comments soon! Later!
