June 2, 2007 - Saturday

Sunny and hot day.

A mostly good day. I got up at a reasonable time this morning showered and watched this morning's episode of The 4400. I like that show. It's getting interesting. Fumihiko came home in the middle of it and then we went out for breakfast.

After our breakfast at Gusto, hubby dropped me off at my school. I checked my set up, and then when she came, I taught my student. After her class, I got ready for the next class and took a break. I read more of my Amy Tan novel. Great. My 3:00pm class didn't show up! I was really surprised, but they didn't come. However, my 4 pm student did come and we had a good lesson. We did some work on her University study. It was interesting and difficult.

After work, Fumihiko let me know that my missing class had tried to contact me, so I knew that they were okay. Whew. He also came to pick me up. Now, as usual, I'd asked him to give me about half an hour after my classes to let me get changed, finish up my paperwork and set up for the next class I teach. He didn't give me that time. When he phoned me, he was parked outside the building. I was a touch saddened that he didn't respect me enough to give me the time I needed. Still, I let him come in and I gave him some tea. Wasn't that nice of me?

We decided to go out for dinner to Bistrot de Ponts, our favourite little French restaurant in Mikawa. We were the first customers that evening, but they soon had quite a few others. Hubby and I had the same dinner tonight. We had Shonai pork in a pie crust...probably en croûte. It was very good. I skipped dessert, which looked great, but was a good thing for me.

After dinner we went over to the mall. I wanted to go to the grocery shop to check out the bread situation. It's the only place around that sells whole wheat bread. I got a loaf and I was going to take it through the regular grocery checkout, when Fumihiko asked the woman in the bread department to take my money. I was quite annoyed. I only had a 5000yen note, and I had to break it for a 200 yen loaf of bread. I didn't have enough change to pay for it. Then, we went into the grocery-grocery department and I tried to get a shopping basket, but Mr. Macho decided that he'd get it. Then he practically yelled at me because I was blocking another woman from getting her basket. Well, you know, if he'd just given me the basket like I wanted I wouldn't have blocked the woman. What is it about this guy? He doesn't mind upsetting me, or making me angry, but heaven help it if someone else that we don't know and will never see again is inconvenienced.

We put the stuff in the car, and then headed up to the theater. I gave him our membership cards, and I went off to get popcorn and drinks. He came over to me while I was getting them and mumbled something about "Did you get the new cards?" I had no idea what he was talking about, so said no. He went back to the ticket area. Then I saw him filling out some forms. Meanwhile I'm holding 2 buckets of popcorn and 2 drinks in my arms. I go over to him and it seems that he hadn't renewed our membership cards after all. He swore he had a couple of months ago, but I knew he hadn't because it wasn't time yet. He tried to give me back the membership cards but stopped when he saw that I had no hands free and my expression.

Finally, he gets the tickets, and some stupid brochure for the movie, and carefully puts things in his wallet. It takes him all the way into the theatre before he's dealt with everything, meanwhile I still have my arms and hands full. I finally said to him, "Do you think you could give me a hand?" before he made any attempt to help me. Then he got angry at me. In fact, I think he was going to walk out and leave me. I was really upset at this point. When he's like this there is nothing that I can say to calm him down or make him stop. We found our seats, I put down my popcorn and drink, and went to the toilet. I had a good cry in the toilet for about 5 minutes. I debated not going to see the movie, but I really did want to see it.

I liked the movie. I thought there was one or two quite sad things happen, but over all it was silly, forgettable fun. Geoffrey Rush had fun chewing the scenery. I hope people notice his performance.

We came home via a gyudon shop and the grocery store. We were in better moods, but not great. I have two more days alone with my husband. I am not a happy camper. He told me today that he took Monday off so he could take me to the doctor again. I thought he was just going to take some time off, not the whole day. After last weekend's blowup, I'm worried that this weekend will be the same. It better not be.

Wish me luck! Night. (or morning now....)
