Considering how popular this show is, I’m honestly surprised by the lack of fanfic
that it generates. Nevertheless, there are some great stories out there. Sorry, but I’m
not a Meg fan (in fact, I really hate the first season altogether), but with the advent of
the new cast, romantic possibilities abound.
Once More by Jori
Remington
Adult. (H/Mac) Oh my. A terrific story from an amazing
writer. Harm and Mac give into temptation by telling themselves it will just happen
once. Most fanfic writers only dream of managing characterization like Jori’s. 19k
The Favor by Mojo
Adult. (Webb/Mac) Mojo has a real flair with capturing Mac and Webb at
their most sexy and playful. Mac agrees to accompany Webb to an embassy party on
a little ‘business’. But both of them are taken by surprise when the ride home turns
from business to pleasure... There are several sequels available -- just follow the links
at the bottom of each story. 30k
Airboy by Mojo
Adult. (H/Teresa Coulter) One of the reasons I love fanfic so much is because
it allows writers to expand upon storylines TPTB choose to ignore. Mojo manages to
create a masterpiece based on a single line of dialogue. Looking for a little bit of
comfort, Harm turns to forensic pathologist Teresa Coulter (Trisha Yearwood’s
character). There are also great sequels, Pedestals by Jori
and Witness by Mojo.
41k, 49k, 107k
The Equinox Series by Mareen Slash. (H/Webb) Three nicely
portrayed slash stories. Just why does Clayton Webb continue to do favours for
Harmon Rabb? Mareen does a great job capturing Webb’s emotions in both these
pieces. (Gail has written two different alternate endings available to this series that are worth
checking out. They can be found here).
The Basement by Jori
RemingtonSlash. Sigh. I know that recommending Jori’s work is
becoming almost redundant by this point, but as long as she keeps writing such
incredible stories, I have a moral obligation to keep rec’ing them. And man, *this*
one just about melted my monitor straight into the desk! Harm draws the short straw,
but he certainly comes out the winner in this HOT piece of fic. Once you’re finished
with this one, don’t forget to check out the Harm/Webb sequel, Tangled Butterfly by
Jori and MoJo. 110k, 77k
The Mission by Saint Louie Woman(Webb/Mac). A mission in Iraq goes
wrong, leaving Webb and Mac on their own in a hostile country. Paula writes first
person Webb like he was actually whispering the story in her ear. 193k
The Unnamed
Series by Illya
Slash. Rabb and Clay go under the covers...err...I
mean undercover. The fact that this story is more plot than sex makes for a refreshing
change of pace. If that's not enough, the writing and characterization are solid.
289K
Please
by Gail and Isilzha
Slash. This story disappeared off the web for
awhile just when I was going to rec it. I liked this story because it goes against type,
especially where Harm is concerned. Yet despite that, the characters are not really
out of character. Rabb needs another favour from Webb, only this time it's gonna
cost him. 60K
Playing House by
Jori Adult. I should be tired of recommending Jori's stories by now, but
the pairing alone makes this one noteworthy. Things change between Harm and
Harriet while Bud is out at sea. I know, I know, Harm and *Harriet*? But damn,
Jori not only makes it work, it's dripping with enough realism to make you sympathize
and understand their relationship. 227K
The Around The World Series
by Saint Louie Woman Adult/Slash. Webb/Mac/AJ. This is one of those stories where I'm not quite sure *why* I like it so much. It has a weak, unbelievable starting point and a pairing I normally can't believe (Webb/AJ). But it's a testimony to Paula's writing ability (and her blistering sex scenes) that eventually won me over. If you're looking for something realistic, it ain't gonna be here. If you're looking for a nice, smutty escapist fic, step right up to this plate. 362K

The West Wing
Links last checked on April 15, 2003.
Not only does this show feature some of the best writing and acting on television
today, it has also done the impossible -- made me respect Rob Lowe as an actor. The
on-screen chemistry he shares with Bradley Whitford is almost tangible.
Link Temporarily Down The West Wing by Maharae
Slash. The course of love never runs smoothly, but when Josh and Sam
finally do get on the right track, the results are explosive. There are also a couple of
sequels out there -- 30 Second Hypothetical, to name one -- but I haven't had
any luck in finding the links to them. Let me know if you come across them. 71K.
Indiscretions
by Jori
Slash. A blackmail plot threatens Josh and Sam's
relationship. Nobody does flashback storytelling like Jori. Long and involved, settle
in and enjoy this one.
Antiacousticophobia by
Cagey
Adult. Don't let the title throw you -- just read this tasty little
Sam/CJ fic biscuit. Great characterization. 34K
The Science
of Living Again by Jori
Adult. One of my all-time favourite JAG
writers is also very involved in the WW fandom. This CJ/Josh story is only one
example of her mastery over the characters in a story that just drips with all the
awkward, realistic moments that occur when two friends become more. I can't think
of a better story summary than Jori's. 'CJ and Josh find healing in an unexpected
place--each other.' 28K.
The Statesmen Series
by Sabine
Slash. Although I'm usually a sucker for a happy ending,
there's still something to be said about poignant ambiguity. Josh stuggles to come to
terms with some basic self-truths.
Trust in the Difficult by
Calligrafiti
Slash. A touching J/S first time story here with dialogue that
sounds like it was written by Aaron Sorkin himself. 39K.
Collateral by
Marguerite
Gen. I don't read, let alone recommend, a lot of gen stories.
There has to be something about them that gets to me, and this one certainly did.
Following the shooting, political maneovering and his own personal fears are pushing
Josh to the brink. Will he have the courage to do what needs to be done, and if he
does, will he be able to keep himself from crossing the line? 46K.
Scratching the Itch by
Nomi
Slash. It seems that the last person to realize that Josh has feelings
for Sam is Josh himself. But will he be strong enough to tell Sam how he feels? Love
the realism that Nomi injects into this one. 81K
Bodies in Motionby Abigale Non-graphic slash. Josh and Sam have a casual 'bed-buddy' relationship, but something is changing. Abigale does a great job staying true to the characters without losing a single bit of the realism that makes this story such a great read. 177K
A Bluer Ocean by Abigale Non-graphic slash. I try not to rec the same authors too often, at least not in the same fandom and especially not in the same update. However, it's been too long since I've come across WW fic with the quality of Abigale's. Written in third person from POV of Miriam Lyman, this story delves into the feelings and observations of Josh's mother as to how she views her son's relationship with his lover, Sam. 244K

Once a Thief
Links last checked on April 15, 2003
Sigh. When I first saw the pilot, I remember thinking to myself ‘Man, those boys
are *hot*.’ Lucky for me, Belgian tv is replaying the series and I’ve found a new
fandom to peruse.
The Music series by
Te
Slash. Oh man. What a series this is! Te just nails the dialogue and
characterization, and the sex -- especially in part 2 -- is enough to melt solid iron. A
six pack and some male bonding starts off a series that amusingly chronicles the guys’
burgeoning relationship. 123k
The Gay Blade by
Lianne BurwellSlash. Geez, here I go again blowing my ‘one story rec
per author per fandom’ rule right out the window. But it can’t be helped. The
‘first-time-triggered-by-going-undercover-at-a-gay-bar’ plot has been used and abused
in so many law-enforcement-based fandoms that it’s become a slash cliche by now.
Take my word for it, though, this one ought to be the *standard* by which all the
others are judged. Simply beautifully written in every regard, and it was deservedly
rewarded with a 1998 Stiffie Award. 27k
Men at Sometime by
Sylvia Slash. Oh my. When Victor takes a moment to re-evaluate his
life, he finds it sadly lacking and decides to make some big changes. Fortunately for us
readers, one of those changes includes a little sexual experimentation -- with a certain
ex-thief. 109k
Drowning Sorrows by
Lianne Burwell Slash. I’m already crazy about Lianne’s Nikita slash,
but this OAT series blew me away. It’s not easy trying to weave a slash series in and
around the actual episodes, but Lianne has done it -- and done it beautifully. Sit back
and enjoy this wonderful ride. 209k
Going Deep by Anne
Zo Slash. Whoo-hoo! A novel-length OAT story! The director sends
the boys undercover to investigate a series of murders in a gay community. But will
the identity of the killer be the only thing Vic and Mac discover? This story is
especially recommended for people that like a little more plot with their helping of slash
;-) 373k
Connections
by RinaSlash. And now for something a little different...the Director
has a new case for the guys, one that involves a murderer that finds his prey in internet
chat rooms. As he investigates, Vic ‘meets’ a kindred spirit in cyber-space, but is his
new friend as anonymous as Victor thinks? 156k
Broken Link!
Director’s Order by Susan SmithsonSlash. The Director has a new
assignment for the boys -- namely, each other. Nicely plotted with solid
characterizations. 65k
The Eraser Series by
Jennie and Jamie Wilson Slash. How many times does it take to get a
relationship right? That is the question as Mac and Vic stumble their way from friends
to bed-buddies to something more. There is a nice sense of realism throughout the
stories, even through the one or two scenes where the characterization of Vic seems a
tad too soft. 151K
What You Can Get by Speedo
Slash. It isn't that often that I come across slash stories with ambiguous
endings (at least not without a sequel planned or already in the works). Maybe that's
why I enjoyed this one so much. An assignment causes Mac to see Victor in a whole
new setting, bringing unexpected desires to light. But what will happen when Vic has
to wrap up the case? 202K

X-Files
~~~*~~~X-Files 'Classics'
Links last checked on April 15, 2003.
Five years ago, XF was my first introduction to fanfic. As time passed, my interest
spread to other fandoms. Recently, though, I've found myself coming back to my first
love.
I (literally) blew the dust off some of my old disks to offer a few older classics. (I've
tried to use
as many direct links as possible, but please note that some links may take you to the
main page of the Gossamer archive).
The Magician by
Jennifer Lyon and Suzanne Bickerstaffe
NC-17 (Gen version also
available). Although I’m not a big fan AU’s, this series is definately the exception
to the rule. Mulder and Scully are mystically transported into a world full of magicians
and warriors, kings and queens, and enough intrigue to fill several novel-length
sequels. A must read for any fans of the ‘fantasy’ genre.
Walls I & II by Saraid
Adult. I
must confess that I love the first two stories of this series. An older selection, the first
story takes
place during the Anasazi episode, when the pleadings of a delerious Mulder finally
convince
Scully to give in to her hidden desires. The sequel is probably one of the more realistic
rape stories I’ve ever read. When Scully is randomly and brutally attacked, both her
world
and Mulder’s are shattered. Will the partners be able to put the pieces back
together?
Vengeance by Juliettt
Gen. Also centered around the Anasazi episode, this lengthy tale ventures
out into ‘AU’ territory. But damn if it isn’t one of the best ‘friendship’ XF stories out
there. Emotionally adrift after Mulder is officially declared dead, Scully’s friends and
family gather to help her through it. But what happens when Mr. X mysteriously
leaves a sorely injured Mulder on Scully’s front lawn?
Well, it looks like my new passion for OAT has me scrambling for more fic
based around a certain green-eyed jaw-dropper. Up until recently, I’ve always
avoided XF slash. To be honest, it was either too out of character for me to buy, or
just too heavy into BDSM. I *love* fic that keeps characters basically in character.
Here are a couple of stories that, for the most part, manage to do just that.
Ghosts and
Lovers
by Torch
Non-Graphic and Slash, respectively. Ever read a story and
just can’t find enough words to give it the praise it deserves? That’s exactly how I felt
when I finished these two novel-length fics. Torch keeps the characters and plot so
close to the actual show, only Darin Morgan does them better! Circumstances force
Mulder and Scully to work with Krycek on an investigation that ends up unearthing a
good portion of our favourite Ratboy’s past. 513k, 734k
The Departure Series by Imajiru Slash. Like Torch’s story above, Imajiru’s Departure
Series just flat out transcends any praise I can give it. It’s just *THAT* good. Personally, my favourite is the 3rd part, but the preceding pieces are excellent as well. Part 1 begins with Krycek kidnapping Mulder, which sets off a spiral of need that neither man could have ever imagined. Parts 2 and 2.5 deal with their need for each other growing out of control. But it is part 3 that is the masterpiece, a Krycek redemption story that is, IMHO, one of the absolute best of the genre. 770k
Tails by
Amirin Slash. In all the fic I’ve read (and believe me, I read *lots* of
it), I can count on one hand the number of stories that have actually made me cry.
You can add this heartbreaking masterpiece on that list. Amirin has done a beautiful
thing here. There are times when only an enemy can be one’s last hope. Death
Story 80k
Alex's Journal
by Aries Slash. This story is a prequel to Aries’ Green Eyed Monster
series. While the rest of the series is good (a little too domesticated for my taste,
though),
'Alex’s Journal' just shines. Like the name implies, Krycek keeps a journal of his
thoughts as he helps Mulder, Scully, et al to bring down the Consortium. Very nicely
written.
The End of the Cold War by Kadru Slash. Kadru is a very talented writer, especially in this Redemption of Krycek (tm) story. A couple of years after the fall of the Consortium, Mulder literally runs into a very down on his luck Krycek. Kadru’s characterizations are solid, making the story a great read. 235k
The Admission Series by Aries Slash. Okay, so I have to admit that Aries has taken some liberties with the characterization in these stories, but damn if the sex doesn’t more
than make up for it! From the steamy first time to the guilt and angst that follows, Aries certainly doen’t skimp on plot, dialogue or monitor melting love scenes.
Shock the Monkey by Kassandra Slash. Ah, this one is what slash is all about. Story,
characterization, the works -- it’s all here and beautifully constructed. Believing that he is about to die, Krycek sets out to find Mulder. Once cured, the relationship between the two slowly changes in what is, IMHO, one of the best written Redemption of Krycek (tm) stories out there. 178k
The Chemistry
Series by Louise Wu Slash. Tired of the status quo in his
adversarial role with Mulder, Krycek tries a new approach. Louise does a terrific job
with all of the characters, not just M/K. Excellent writing and story pacing makes this
series a must read. Links to the next parts are there -- look right above the author's notes at the end of each section. 600k
Touch Your Mind by
Jami Wilsen Slash. Set after the disaster that was the 'Year of the
Doggett', Mulder leaves D.C., his job and his new family to do a little soul searching.
Thank God Krycek isn't about to let Mulder do it alone. Jami takes the characters through
some harsh - but necessary - emotional paces. What's more is that she does so
without feminizing or otherwise needlessly torturing the boys. 278K
~~~*~~~Other X-Files Pairings
Links last checked on April 15, 2003.
Prone and Unnatural Tendencies by Sarah Ellen Parsons
Adult/Slash. Like the song says,
sometimes ‘a mental mind-fuck can be nice’. This amazing pair of stories features sex and psychological drama at their very best. In ‘Prone’ Alex Krycek fulfils his own agenda by having his way with both members of the dynamic duo -- while the other watches. The aftermath is beautifully dealt with in the sequel. This story contains
scenes of barely- and non-consensual activities 132k, 115k
I Don’t Remember How It Happened by Merri-Todd Webster Adult/Slash. Ever read one of those fics you
can’t quite figure out why you liked it when it contains so many things you *don’t* like in a story? Well, this is one of those. Except, in this case, I know exactly why I ike it. The writing is incredible. Hell, Merri-Todd sold me on M/Sk, a pairing I never read! Mulder, Scully and Skinner form a most unusual relationship --
with a little M/K and M/K/Sk thrown in for good measure. This story contains scenes of barely-consensual activities 293k
The Distance
Covered Series by Naina Gen. Think of this sweet little series as sorbet to cleanse the reading palate after the usual angst-filled X-fare. Scully and Krycek become parents courtesy of the Consortium. Solid writing, but be advised
that one noticably absent character is permanently out of the picture.
Cherry Ripe by Rachel Anton and Laura Blaurosen Adult. Okay, so the
characterization in this story may push the boundaries believability, it’s still quite an
entertaining read. Stranded in the middle of nowhere, Scully finally arrests Krycek. But just who has captured whom? 143k
The Houseboat
Variations by JiM Slash. What a wonderful set of AU stories JiM
has created here. Although the pairings differ from story to story, all the segments
are united by the common theme of one character having settled on a houseboat,
post-series.
A Dream of Fools by Spica Adult. It's always difficult to find
justification for the pairing of Scully and Krycek -- there is simply too much bad blood
between the two of them for me to really believe that Scully would get pelvic with the
Ratboy. And yet, I find myself suspending my disbelief enough to enjoy an
occasional story like this one. Sent to retrieve a file from Scully's apartment, Krycek
gets a bit sidetracked. 228k
