PA Plate Appearance Passed Ball A pitched ball that gets by the catcher and allows one or more runners to advance. If it occurs on a third strike, the batter may attempt to get to first base. The catcher is not charged with an error. If there are no runners on base, the catcher cannot be charged with it.

or PB Passed Ball PENALTY the application of the Official Little League Rules following an illegal act. Perfect Game A complete game by the pitcher in which he or she does not allow a hit, base on balls or anyone to reach base on an error. The pitcher retires every batter he or she faces. Pepper A fast-paced fielding game involving a hitter and one or more fielders; designed to sharpen reflexes and hand-eye coordination. The hitter hits the ball to a fielder standing 10 to 20 feet away. The fielder then fields the ball and immediately throws the ball back to the hitter, who bunts the ball back toward the fielder(s). The PERSON of a player or an umpire is any part of the body, clothing or equipment. PICK OFF An attempt by the pitcher to get a base runner (who is leading off) out by throwing to the base from the stretch position.
PINCH HITTER A hitter who substitutes in the line-up for a starting player. The original batter cant return to the game, so the pinch hitter or a third person takes over the defensive position as well. PINCH RUNNER A player entering the game to run for someone already on base.
Pitch The throw to the batter. PITCHER the fielder designated to deliver the pitch to the batter.
Pitching Mound Elevated dirt mound from which the pitcher delivers the ball to home plate. Pitching Rubber a white rectangular piece of rubber installed at the top of the pitching mound on which a pitcher must place one foot when delivering a pitch. synonyms: pitcher's plate, pitching rubber, rubber, slab, plate PITCHING ROTATION The order in which the starting pitchers take turns starting games, usually with three or four days rest between starts. PITCHOUT When a pitch is thrown wide of the strike zone on purpose. A catcher will signal for a pitchout if they think that a runner is trying to steal.
The Pitcher's Plate Appearance A player's appearance in the batter's box. It includes all appearances in the batter's box, not just those which result in an official at-bats. "PLAY" the umpire's order to start the game or to resume action following any dead ball. PLAYER AGENT This position in the local league is defined in the Operating Manual Player Member Any participant placed on a team in a local league. Player Members are not entitled to vote in the annual election, and have no duties or obligations in the management or affairs of the local league. PLAYOFF pertaining to the post-season games used to determine the league champions. Play Under Protest (of a team) to continue a game after a manager declares he will officially file a complaint with the league president regarding a ruling by an umpire. PO Putout POWER HITTER a powerful batter who makes many extra-base hits and home runs, but may not have a high batting average. synonyms: power hitter, clouter, clout king, heavy hitter, slugger, powerhouse, mauler, bomber, strong hitter, fence buster {fence-buster}, big bat, basher, big dog, big gun, big cannon, big hitter, big stick, banger, bat breaker PRESIDENT This position in the local league is defined in the Operating Manual. protect the runner (of a batter) to try to hit a pitch so that an advancing base runner is not caught stealing; for example, during a hit-and-run play. PROTEST (of a manager) to officially file a complaint with the league president regarding a ruling by an umpire Protested Game a game in which the manager of either team files a complaint with the league that an umpire has misapplied a rule. PULL HITTER A batter that generally hits to the same side of the field that he bats. (e.g., right-handed pull hitter hits to the left side of the field). to "pull the ball" - verb. To hit the ball to left field if you're a right hander, or vice versa. Punchout A strikeout Putout The retirement of a batter or runner by a member of the defense.
