Illinois 23 is a significant highway running from Pontiac through Ottawa and Dekalb to end up at Harvard in McHenry County.

Intersections from north to south:

IL23 begins at US14 at Harvard

IL176 at Marengo

US20 at Marengo

IL23 joins IL72 westbound

Then it leaves IL72 and goes south at Genoa

IL23 joins IL64 westbound through downtown Sycamore

Soon after it leaves IL64 and goes south at Sycamore

IL38 at DeKalb*

US30 near Waterman

IL23 Joins US34 southwesterly

It leaves US34 to go south again

IL23 joins yet another route,US52, westbound

IL23 breaks off of US52

I-80 approaching Ottawa

IL23 crosses US6 as IL71 joins from the east in Ottawa

IL71 leaves to the west right next to Ottawa

I-55 by Pontiac

IL23 ends at IL116 at Pontiac.

It passes through these towns: Harvard, Marengo, Genoa, Sycamore, DeKalb, Ottawa, Grand Ridge, Streator, Cornell, Pontiac.

*- Railroad tracks cut diagonally through the intersection of IL23 and IL38. It's an interestingly set-up intersection. Also, IL23 passes under I-88 without an interchange. There are signs along I-88 directing traffic to the 2 DeKalb interchanges, though.
