The village of Kampanos on Crete
The village of Kampanos is situated in the soutwest of Crete on the Chania - Prases - Kampanos - Sougia route. Most of the villages in this part of Crete are very small. Kampanos is just a little bit bigger than most of the villages in its neighbourhood. It is set in the forests and and surrounded by very pretty and very old olive trees. Down from the church along the olive tree fields there is a path that leads to a small church on a hill. I didn't check it, but concidering the area it is in (southeast Crete) I suspect it is going to be Byzantine with fresco's inside, like most of the smaller churches in the area. Kampanos has just a little over 200 inhabitants (2007) and is the capitol of the district East Selino. Just a few meters outside the village boundaries there is a taverna on the road wher you can have a drink or something to eat.
