The village of Kokkino Chorio in Crete
This "red village" on the Drapano Cape, overlooking the Souda Bay, derives its name from the blood that fled here in 1821, when the Turkish army murdered 150 women and children. It's a very authentic traditional village without hotels. Only at the edge of the village are some concrete buildings. In front of the church a scene from "Zorba the Greek" was filmed: the stoning of the widow.
