The village of Platanes on Crete
Platanes is a mountain village in the soutwest of Crete, situated on a side road on the route of Kandanos to Paleochora (there is a crossroad where you can choose Prodomi or Platanes). The village is on a short distance from the main road and it's worth a visit because of the small Byzantine church in the middle of the village. The village itself counts only a few houses and the views are excellent. The asfaltroad stops here (2007) and continues in a dirttrack.
On the way from Kandanos to Paleochora, near Platanes, there is another cute little church to take a look at, but this one is of more recent date.
