DRAINS
Consist of two primary groups. Magic Induced
Vampires and Rogues.
MIVs retain the
same abilities as real vampires, but their bodies are still living. They are
considered drains because they are capable of feeding off of living and in doing
so, they strengthen their vampiric powers. Though they do need some amount of
blood to retain control of themselves, they can survive off of pre-packaged
blood (some commercial companies have already started marketing this, the most
popular product being Vampri Sun.) They do eventually die without sustenance,
i.e. real food, unless they are embraced. NOTE: MIVs do not use the
following list of skills. For more information, see
Races: Vampires.
Rogues
are individuals who drain other people of strength, power, magical ability, and
sometimes appearance to use for their own purposes. It is not uncommon for
rogues to don gloves to protect others as they are learning to control their
powers. As rogues go up in levels
and thus gain more control over their powers though, they also gain control over WHEN
they use their powers. So it is possible for higher level rogues to touch, hug,
kiss, etc. their loved ones. Studies have shown that their powers are closely
linked to their mental concentration and awareness. If a rogue is unconscious,
he/she is not a threat. This power is not without trade offs however. The more a
drain, or indeed any mage, uses their powers, the more the energy they
themselves exert. Though a drain may be able to take energy from others to keep
him/her self going, it will inevitably find its effect on the mage. Once the
effects wear off, the mage will be exhausted in proportion to the amount of
energy they exerted to use the magic.
Learner Level(•):
Touch attacks are difficult to control and drain touched living victims of their
abilities or lifeforce. This can have devastating effects on the rogue's life as
many times those close to them get injured or even killed.
Basic Level 1(••): Touch attacks are more easily
controlled, but it takes a great deal of concentration.
Basic Level 2(•••): Touch attacks are
controlled and the effects of a touch attack can be chosen by the caster, i.e.
which ability they desire to drain. These include (but are not limited to) life
force or energy, magical abilities, memories, and knowledge (for example,
extensive knowledge of how to use a specific weapon can be drained). At this
level, the ability that is drained tends to fade quickly. Also from this level
forward, the rogue retains all random memories from the people they have taken
ability from. This sometimes can be damaging to the rogue's sanity if they are
not very stable to begin with.
Intermediate Level 1(••••): The rogue has the
ability to determine which quality they wish to drain from the subject and can
maintain that ability for a one hour period. Once the rogue has developed enough
control, it is also possible to use the touch power to enter into another
person's mind, similar to a well developed telepathic. This is only possible as
long as the rogue stays in contact with the subject.
Intermediate Level 2(•••••): The rogue has the
ability to determine which quality they wish to drain from the subject and can
maintain the ability for days at a time. There have also been some instances of
the rogue being able to give energy as well as receive it.
Advanced Level (••••••): Do not have to touch their victims to drain their
power, they only have to be within sight, and have access to their mind. An
unconscious person is easy prey. Rogues make excellent hand to hand fighters and
give no sensory signal that they are casting, unless they are using the skills
of the others. Even then, when Rogues gain that ability, they too have to
practice for a little while to get a handle on the elemental magic, but they
learn much quicker. Advanced rogues need only a few seconds of adjustment before
casting as an advanced elementalist.
