page_15.jpg (93438 bytes) There were children playing in the yard. One child ran

over to the tree and pulled off the star on top. The

branches of the tree crackled under the child's footsteps.

The servants chopped the tree and placed it in the

fireplace.

The tree thought about his wonderful past. He missed the forest, the sunbeams and all his friends.

"The past is the past" he thought.

The life of the tree is past and so is this story.
