Historical German Shepherd Dogs Who Carried the White Recessive Gene, Historical White Dogs out of Well Known Parentage

The gene for the white recessive has been a part of the breed since its beginning. The white recessive gene is not an albino gene, but rather a gene for white coat and normal dark body pigment. White colored dogs are structurally, temperamentally, and medically no different than German Shepherd Dogs of any other color. When the white dogs were considered disqualifications, the knowledge of genetics was in its infancy. The only known genetics of white was the albino gene, and there are problems associated with albinism in many species. Had the knowledge of genetics then had been what it is today, it is very likely that the attitude toward the white dog, and the blue and liver also, for that matter, would be entirely different. This is a list of dogs that produced white, and white dogs out of well known parentage of their time from the beginning of the breed.

Any additions (including proof of white progeny by way of pedigree or studbook number that can be verified) may be sent to DrWGSDGenes@hotmail.com,and I will add the dog to this list.
I NEED and welcome any and all data to further this project: GSD Studbooks, magazines, pedigrees, Breed Survey Books, books, photos, from anywhere and everywhere in the world. Readable photocopies are fine (any language). Materials may be snailmailed to DrWGSDGenes,6165 S 550 E, Walton, IN. 46994.

I am working on adding photos and pedigrees of some of the dogs in these lists, and as these are added, links on the dog's name will be provided to access the picture and/or pedigree. Titles of some of these dogs have yet to be added to these lists. In some cases, a dog's name may have appeared spelled in more than one way, and I have added the alternate spelling in parentheses.

(W)-Denotes white dogs

(*)-Denotes dogs that genetically are whites, but were registered as cream, buff, fawn, etc.

In some cases, year of birth is noted after the W or *

NOTE! This list has grown to be of such length that it is now necessary to divide it into a group of lists. The list is being divided into groups by alphabetical order by the name of the dog. Hopefully subdividing this into a group of smaller files will solve the problem some people have reported with getting the whole list to load and come up.
