Rainy.
This is my second attempt to write my entry for today. The computer ate my first one. My poor Mac is not doing well lately and it froze in mid sentence and wouldn't budge. I had to do a restart and lost all that I'd written. Sigh.
We woke up late today. We had some coffee and lazed around when we did get up. Fumihiko as always got up before me. He's a bit odd when he gets up. He sits in the dark and doesn't turn on the heater. I never understand why. He was on his computer so I suppose he didn't need the light, but I thought it was chilly. He said he couldn't tell if it was cold or not. I pointed out that the heater has a thermometer in it, and if he wasn't sure he could check it. I was cold and it was only 15 degrees.
We had some of our leftover chicken for a light lunch. We didn't do very much in the afternoon, just computer stuff and TV watching. In the early evening we decided to go to a yakitori shop for dinner. It was Fumihiko's suggestion.
We got in the car and drove off. Then he suggested going to our favourite restaurant in Mikawa. That was fine by me, so we went to Mikawa. We got there and discovered that they weren't open today. So, we headed over to Amarume to go to a steak restaurant. They weren't open either! I suggested going to another restaurant in Amarume, one that's in a log cabin type building. We drove there. The sign was all lit up, so we went there and discovered that there was now a new building in the parking lot. It looked like a geodesic dome. We parked and went in.
There was an upstairs and a downstairs. The young waitress who met us near the door didn't give us any guidance as to where we should go. She told us to,"sit anywhere." We went into an empty room with tables and chairs and sat down. It was all new wood inside and very nice looking. Was this the right place to go? The waitress brought us some water in a few minutes and took our order, so it probably was.
I ordered fish, and Fumihiko ordered the meat dish. A few minutes later the waitress brought us each a tray with a bowl of rice, some soup, a terrine of somethng, a layer thingy of salmon and hacksai and a croquette. It was all very nice, but unexpected! A few more minutes later our main dishes arrived. My fish (salmon) was very nice and came with a good salad. Fumihiko's was some kind of pork stir-fry. He seemed to like it. After we were done, the waitress tried to take our trays away by stacking them and moving them at the same time but it didn't work! Chopsticks fell off the tray and it looked like other things would follow. She put the trays on another table and took one away. She gave us our desserts and coffees too. The dessert was very light. It was fresh fruit and cream. There wasn't much fruit, and quite a bit of cream. Still, we enjoyed our meal very much, but I feel that they need to work a few kinks out of the service. When we left we weren't even sure where to pay, and that's never a good thing. The waitress was either inexperienced or not very good...I'll give her the benefit of the doubt. A couple of signs in the lobby saying where to go would be a good thing. For example, is upstairs smoking? For drinking? For light meals? What? We didn't know and the waitress didn't seem to notice our confusion.
After dinner we drove back to Tsuruoka and went to karaoke for a couple of hours. It was fun. I started with a bunch of Christmas songs. I did Little Drummer Boy, Slade's Merry Christmas Everybody, and even The Pogue's A Fairy Tale of New York. That was funny, but maybe not the most Christmassy song I've ever done. We sang for 2 hours and had a good time. Fumihiko tried Last Christmas, but he needs to work on it a bit more. The same could be said for my attempt at Queen's Who Wants to Live Forever!
We came home and watched Doctor Who. It was quite fun. One of the Doctors old associates Sarah Jane was in it tonight, as was K-9. I just keep enjoying this show. Not sure why, it's not the best sci-fi around, but it is a lot of fun.
That was pretty much it. Fumihiko went off to bed a bit ago. He has to work tomorrow, poor thing. I on the other hand have no plans for tomorrow. That's kind of liberating. I could sleep all day, or I could watch Corner Gas all day or I could go shopping or....?
Well, you'll just have to tune in tomorrow night for another scintillating episode of Living La Vida Loca won't you? Night night!
