Clear and sunny, nice day.
I went to bed before Fumihiko last night. He stayed up late watching a very noisy old Japanese movie.
This morning I was woken up by my husband playing around with the curtains in our room. The first thing I remember was him hiding behind the curtains, probably looking out the window at 6:45 am. He disputes that and says that my alarm on my cell phone woke him up. That of course is a complete fabrication because I did not set my alarm for 6:45, nor would I. I set it for 7:15 because I needed to be up by 7:30. I think the fact that it was his birthday today made him temporarily crazy.
I got up, showered and then went down to breakfast with my husband. Afterwards, I came back up to the room, grabbed my coat and some stuff, and headed off to the station with my husband in tow. Sigh. I took a copy of an email with me with directions to the Expo. It gave the name of the JR train line as Senseki. So, at the station, I checked the Senseki departure times quickly, bought my ticket and went through the gate. I thought it was a little odd that the line went towards Matsushima, but no matter. The train was at the platform so I jumped on and hoped for the best. When I looked at one of the maps over the door I couldn't see the name of the stop I was supposed to get off at. I thought that it might be a tiny stop, but then the train stopped somewhere and everyone got off. I decided to go back to Sendai and see what was going on. I caught the next train back to Sendai.
At Sendai station I got off the train and went back up to the main part of the station. I started looking at all of the gates and the stations that the related train lines stopped at. I found that the Senzan Line stopped at the station I wanted to go to. Hurray. I found it. Bad news, the next train wasn't for 25 minutes. I went down to the platform, and waited, then when it came got on and waited. And waited. There was an announcement that I think said the train would be leaving 10 minutes late. Sigh.
I was a little nervous as you can imagine, but finally got to the right station. I wasn't sure about where the expo was, but another couple of latecomers were on the train and we figured it out from the map. Hurray! Made it.
Most of the presentations were really good and I learned quite a few things for my school and my classes. It was nice to be around other English professionals for the day.
When I got back to the train station I called my husband and came back to Sendai. He met me at the station and we went for dinner. Because today was his birthday, I took him to our favourite Sendai restaurant and had a lovely dinner. He even got cake at another restaurant.
We did a little shopping and then came back to the hotel where sadly things have degenerated quite badly. We have been fighting over who woke whom up this morning, and even though I really don't care at this point, have had to put up with a very childish and whinging husband.
Anyway, I'm sure that no one wants to hear any more about this, so I think I'll end this now. Hopefully I'll be able to post from home tomorrow night. Night night.
