Fushigi Yuugi, the Mysterious Play Synopsis of Fushigi Yuugi. Partially complete, with a link to a very complete synopsis. I got lazy, so sue me... ^_^'
Tamahome - the hero of our series. He is rather co-dependent on Miaka and is, unfortunately, only a character in a book, as Yui is not hesitant to point out. But hey, he's amazingly strong, talented, cute, and he goes all over to help Miaka. He is also devoted to his family. And he has compassion, too. Although he does end up punching right through Nakago's chest, he understands a little more about what his enemy's life was like, and grieves.
Hotohori - the Emperor of Konan, Hotohori is above all other things a leader. Although he has Chichiri occasionally step in to make an illusion of him when he needs to serve Miaka, Hotohori is devoted to his people and serves them as emperor as best he can. He's a little vain -- well, look at that hair! -- but he is smart and excellent with a blade in his hands. As a matter of fact, he nearly kills Tamahome at one point.
Tasuki - also known as Genrou, Tasuki was the leader of the bandits on Mt. Leikoku. Brash, loud mouthed, impulsive, ridiculous, he swears too much and drinks too much. But the very first thing he does is rescue Miaka from near-rape. With his tessen, the giant fan that he uses for a weapon, he burns his enemies and with his incredible speed he confuses the heck out of them. He's best friends with Kouji, too.
Speaking of Kouji , he's Tasuki's best friend and takes over as the All Mighty Bandit King when Tasuki becomes one of the Suzaku seishi. Blue haired, with a scar on his left cheek, Kouji often talks to himself. Sometimes I think living alone in the moutains is bad for people. Case and point. ^_^
Mitsukake is a healer who joins the seishi. Tall and dark and quiet, he is older than most of the others, he holds in his heart the memory of his dead lover, Shoka. Healing requires a great amoung of strength, and Mitsukake takes his powers very seriously. As a matter of fact, he takes them so seriously that it kills him.
The Genbu seishi, Hikitsu and Tomite , are dead. Not much else to say about them except that they guard the Genbu no Miko's shinzaho from interlopers. Tomite uses a bow and arrow, while Hikitsu shapes ice as a weapon. Hikitsu's kanji is located on his eye, which is why he wears an eyepatch.
Nakago is the leader of the Kotou country, and manipulates Yui so that he can work his will on the world. Blonde-haired, blue-eyed, Nakago inspires an odd loyalty among the Seiryuu seishi, especially Soi, who loves him. He seems to be rather cold to his followers, though. And of course, he gets his chest punched through by Tamahome. Death is a release, but it doesn't make up for having a lousy childhood.
The twins, Amiboshi and Suboshi , are members of the Seiryuu seishi. Amiboshi focuses his power through a flute, while Suboshi telekinetically controls the Ryuuseisui. Their parents were killed during the civil war, and Amiboshi ended up raising both himself and Suboshi. Suboshi turned out to be a little manic...he has no regard for anyone but himself. Although he is fiercely loyal, he has no empathy and doesn't care if others get hurt. Amiboshi is almost the exact opposite of that. While this means they do compliment each other nicely, it makes Suboshi hard to like.
And of course, from the real world come Keisuke and Tetsuya , Miaka's brother and his best friend, respectively. Keisuke is keeping an eye on Miaka through the book and probably shamelessly mooching off the nicely rich Tetsuya.
